Hi

I am currently booked in for a smear at 32 weeks with the hospital consultant. This is due to me being on annual smears since 2006 following a cone biopsy operation. However she told me she would leave it until 32 weeks as there is a very small chance it could start labour. As it approaches I am seriously thinking about cancelling, just don't want to take the chance. But on the other hand seems wrong to ignore what a doctor tells you.

Anyone else had this done, or are more informed than me?

Sorry, know it is up to me to decide, but would love more opinions.

Xx

personally i would cancel. I went into prem labour at 36weeks and when i had an internal she hardly touched me and it kicked labour up 10gears! Rebook it for about 8-10weeks after your baby is due, that way if you have any tears they can check they are healing correctly. To me, it isnt worth the risk of a prem baby. Xxx

Hi im similar to you have had to have smears yearly, i was due a smear in march which would have made me only 3 months pregnant when i rang and spoke to them and explained i was pregnant they said they would leave it until after ive had the baby?? Its your choice i know but personally id wait until after baby born. sorry im not much help thoughxx

Not sure hun, didn't want to read+run BUT I would say you can always ask for a second opinion - maybe wait until you are 36 or 37 weeks, just in case it does start labour, then baby's lungs etc would be more developed??
Although there may be a reason as to why they want you to have one at 32 weeks.

Good luck xxxxxx

I had treatment for dodgy cells in Sept and was due for a colcoscopy, but when i spoke to the doc he said he wud justhav a look to check everythin looked ok and not take a biopsy or anythin, buked in for one three months after baby born xx

Same thing for me, im supposed to be on yearly smears and had my appt through. I rang them and they said id be better of waiting until id had the baby.
God forbid anything being found, they wouldnt start treatment until then anyway.

You are not meant to have smears during pregnancy. Check with your midwife

I've has borderline changes for 3 years now and have 6 monthly smear test. But they wont do a smear on me in case of pre-term labour. The big hospital said 6 weeks post delivery.

Thanks for all the advice - really appreciated! Going to go ahead and cancel, just not worth the small risk or the stress. Sure another 3 months won't make that huge a difference, and I would rather take that risk than risk the baby.

My OB/GYN is looking after this pregnancy, but she is also the doc that did my cone biopsy last year. She wants in to have a look before the baby :( She's got me booked for a pap on Nov. 17 and I'm due Dec. 4

Gosh I wouldn't want to have a smear in pregnancy full stop, can they not delay it a few months and wait until you've had the baby and recovered? If a sweep is just a scraping of the cervix what would a smear do?! I would def ask to cancel or at the very least to it when you're full term. I imagine it would be very uncomfortable during pregnancy also x

i had a smear at 32 weeks ... well i had a swab dont really no what the diffs are... :/ but it didnt bring on labour... is a smear diff or summit

I was told they don't generally like doing smears during pregnancy.

I'm a yearly too and mine was due last month but I cancelled it until after baby is born. They advised me that 10-12 weeks after birth would be the best time to have it.

i have been told that you're not meant to have a smear test done while pregnant so i have it in my notes that i'm due for one after the birth

here in the uk we are advised not to but in America its common practice during pregnancy. It would stress me out SO much!

Personally Id book it for 37/38 weeks, that way you will be full-term if it does start labour and you may be grateful for it lol.

I know its a worry about the baby, but if it were a case of them detecting something, then the sooner the better and baby will be grateful to come 2 weeks early and have a healthy Mummy.

I was told that they dont tend to do it because they dont provide accurate results so not much point, they neva ,mentioned it bringing on labour early x
