Has your doctor written you a note to this effect? If so, your boss is breaking the law to force you to do something that you have been certified as medically unfit to do. Once you have informed them you are pregnant they should carry out a risk assessment of your duties. This must take into account medical instructions that you have been given.
If you can't do your usual duties, they have to give you alternative duties.
If they can't give you alternative duties, they have to suspend you on full pay.

This is the law in the UK. It is probably different in other countries.

Doctor has wrote on my sick notes thretend misscarry and said that if I had any problems then to go bk on monday n she will sign me off I went in yesterday and was told that tills will be ok but the assistant manager is being a bitch she don't care about any1but herself I will blatently be tellin her 2 poke her job if she tells me I have 2 do this cage 2day she said 2 me yesterday afta me saying I c my babys heartbeat she has 2 have a hysterectomy now y would u say that I'm actually getting sick of being treated like this 2day ill b making my choice work or my baby n I can tell u its only early days but after seein my babys heart beat its gonna be my baby! X

Do not tell her where to stick her job! You need the maternity pay!
Simply see your doctor and get signed off sick. For a week or so. Explain the stress she is putting you under.
She is obviously upset about her own situation so you would do well not to rub it in by going on about the pregnancy and scans and stuff. But, as your boss, she is still responsible for you at work. She is breaking the law if she asks you to do something that you can't do. As I said, she has to give you alternative duties for the time being. This is the law. Are you a member of a union at all in your line of work. If so get in touch with a representative to stand up for you.
In the meantime, get signed off for a week and relax at home.

Here is a leaflet about the law for you to read, it explains what protection you have and what your boss must do to keep you safe.

Have I read this correctly... you have had a threatened miscarriage? You said you saw the heart beat and she told you to get a hysterectomy? WTF???
When you told them you were pregnant did they do a risk assessment?
Has she instructed you to do lifting and carrying?

Oh I thought the boss had to have a hysterectomy! Not that she was suggesting it to cl. What a cow!
Anyway the law is the law. If you have a note that says no lifting and carrying, you don't lift and carry. If you are told to do it, you don't do it. You complain to someone higher up. They can not disregard a medical instruction. Please print off that leaflet and take it into work.

Looking back i think i read it wrong! :dohh: hot headed pregnancy hormones!

Its crazy I can't belive she would be such a cow n telling my mates behind my back and she's even said this infront of the actual boss I just dnt want 2 b put under stress and the way I feel now its happening 4 da likes of dis job I dnt want 2 quit but if she tells me 2day I have 2 do dis I won't b happy n ino ill juz say sod the job even though I'm doing everything by my books saying I want 2 work on tills like the doctor suggested its just crazy :(

WHat has she told people?

I suggest you do not walk but that you say to her ' as i informed you and as you can see form my GP certificate I have had a threatened miscarriage therefore it is unsafe for me to perform any lifting and carrying'
If she insists tell her that you know wish to take this subject up with the manager as she is directly going against health and safety.
Keep calm at all times because you will get one over on her! Note down exact times and dates and things she is saying / doing.

Really. do not say sod the job. You will lose all your legal rights. Just get signed off sick because they are putting you under too much stress. During that time, get the actual boss to sort out your duties and complain about the way you have been treated.

What is she telling people behind your back? If she is announcing your pregnancy for you that is a breach of professional confidentiality.

All you have to say if you are asked to do something inappropriate is "I'm sorry, my doctor has told me I can't do that for now until the risk of miscarriage has passed"
If you are disciplined for saying that to them, you will have an excellent case for sex discrimination.

I suspect the actual boss will be more reasonable than this evil cow but do not make yourself unemployed voluntarily whatever you do. If you quit your job you will not not be entitled to JSA as it is your own choice and you will get no maternity pay when you have the baby.

I found this on some website I have pregnancy-related medical conditions (eg high blood pressure, history of miscarriages etc)? How does this affect the risk assessment my employer has to carry out?

Your employer must take into account any medical advice from your GP or midwife about your health, and adjust your working conditions accordingly. So there for I am going to go in and say to them if u can't accept that my gp has told me 2 tell u about my problem and I need tills then I'm going to be of sick the nxt 2 days and will get a letter from my gp on monday what do u think kat?x

yes, that is the right thing to do, but I would be as calm and polite and reasonable about it as humanly possible, even if she is being a cow. The leaflet I linked to earlier explains everything your employers need to know and perhaps you and them can go through it together and come to an agreement on your duties during your pregnancy. This may need to be changed from time to time according to what your doctor or midwife says.

If cow-boss tells you to do something, do what you said. Say "I'm sorry, my doctor has told me specifically that I MUST NOT do that". If you need it in writing I will go and get a note for you on monday. Unless I can get alternative duties like going on the till, my doctor has told me to stay at home. So today, I can either go on the till, or you can send me home sick"

Do go and see your doctor on Monday. There is such a thing as a FIT note. It is basically the doctors orders in writing. It is for people in your situation. It says "This person will be fit to go to work as long as they don't have to do this that or the other" If you have this fit note they will need to prove that they are sticking to it.

Also see the next boss up and insist that your risk assessment is carried out and a copy given to you in writing in the next week. If you work for a reasonably large company they should already have a written policy about pregnant workers. Ask to see it if it exists.
