Hi everyone,

I have serious brain ache!!!!!!

Ok, so after MUCH deliberation and research we are much closer to finalising our babies names.

We are most probably going to go with Aydin/Ayden for our boy.

We are deciding between Elissa and Inaya for our girl.

I love all the names above, we are just having issues with the name Inaya right now... When I have mentioned the name Inaya (pronounced IN - I (as in I, like referring to yourself) - AH) most people love it, and I used to love it too... Then I told my mum and sister (who mean the world to me) and they looked at me like I was mad. They were saying it was horrible :(

Now this has really really affected me and I don't know what to do. Every time my hubby mentions Inaya (he adores it) I just say 'Oh i don't know if i like it' although i actually do. It just upsets me that my closest family don't, and its really killing me...

What do I do? How do I deal with this? And what do you guys think of the spelling of Aydin/Ayden, and which (if any) do you like between Inaya and Elissa?

I don't know who else to ask about this

Firstly, i love the name Inaya... Jasmine was going to be Inara, but we changed our minds... i may have to put it back on my list!

As for Ayden.. i personally prefer the Aiden spelling, but i really don't think it makes that much difference as long as you don't mind correcting people all the time.

My family weren't keen on my eldest son's name when he was born .... Niall-Blaize ... but they got over it ;) Stick to your guns if you are happy with your choices.

I really like Elissa out of your girls names, but i also like the fact that Inaya is more unusual, but if Inaya is the one you and your husband love then u should go for it, my mum hates most of the names ive chosen but i know she will get used to them and i think its important for you, the parents to be happy with the name above anyone else.

a friend of mine got bullied into changing the name she loved as others didnt like it and really regrets it now.

Dont even worry about seeking anyone else's approval, if u and hubby are happy then i would actually just keep the names to yourself so u cant be put off by anyone, as everyone will have a different opinion and yours is the only ones that matters!

p.s I like spelling Ayden best for your boys name!

I love Inaya. It is unique and special and has a beautiful ring to it. My mother has been the same with every name I've put to her. She's so negative that it hurts my feelings and really makes me second guess names that I love.

We've finally settled on our names, and I've just decided to keep it as a surprise rather than tell my family. I don't want anyone to spoil it when I love it so much. :)

As for Ayden/Aydin, I like them both. But I've never seen it spelled with an i in it, so I'm immediately drawn to it as it's less popular. ;)

Try not to let other people drag you down, though.

Big hugs.

Even if family don't comment you still catch that glint in their eye that they hate it so if you love a name, don't tell anyone lol. But since you have I'd just keep mentioning it and see if they come round to the idea. I would like to say its your child so ignore what they say but since its close family I doubt you can do that so just try get them used to it. Keep referring to her as Inaya and if they don't warm up to it in a month then see how you feel then. I love both names by the way, not common and very pretty- both requisites for girls names!

Hi hun what does Inaya mean? It sounds really nice

I like Inaya, too! Wonder why they dislike it so much?? I say go with what YOU and DH love. Easier said than done, I know, since its close family that disagrees, but it is your baby and its so special to find a name that you absolutely love for your child. I like the suggestion to keep mentioning the name around them to get them to warm up to it. That being said, I also really like Elissa! Can't go wrong either way :)

As for the little guys name, I like -en rather than -in. I think it looks nicer, if that makes sense. Another cute name, so ya to whatever you decide! Good luck with your decision! :)

Thanks guys, its just such a tough decision and it really upsets me knowing how they reacted. I'll just keep mentioning it to them and hope it warms to them. I know i really shouldn't let it bother me, it should of course be what hubby and i like. Its just quite sad and frustrating!

Inaya means kindness/solitude/grace. It's an arabic name.

Aydin is a Turkish name, it means enlightenment/intelligence. Going to have a little look now at spellings.

Thanks everyone, your replies have really helped :)

xxxx

All my family did not like the name i had chosen for my daughter. After she was born they just got used to it. Later on I heard my mum secretly talking to my DD telling her 'your mum gave you such a pretty name!'

It's your kids, pick the name you like. They will get used to it once they start refering to her by name.

I think Ayden and Elissa sound really cute when said together. Inaya is also a cute name!
If you really like the name Inaya im sure your family will grow to love it :)

I like Ayden and Elissa but they are your babies so ignore everyone else and please yourself.

Gorgeous names hun! My friends little girl is called Anaya (pronounced exactly the same way more or less except An-I instead if In-I) it's adorable! I also think Elissa is a beautiful name too xx

Thanks, i really should just go with what me and hubby want, its just hard as im so close to my family. Oh i love the spelling Anaya, so beautiful. I'll run it past hubby ;) I'm not sure about naming the babies with names beginning with the same letters though, i have such a thing about them having their own individuality. This whole naming process is so hard!! xx

I was going to say spelling it with an A is much nicer than I and H at the end makes it even more cutesy and pretty.

its quite princess-y spelling with an A isn't it? its a gorgeous name and so unique!

Though given your last post on DD about her initials being A.S.S lol depends on how much you want her second name over the spelling of the first name etc. xx

I love Inaya - especially knowing the meaning, which is lovely! I hope you follow your heart and choose that. And Aydin/Ayden is also lovely. I tend to go for names that have special meanings like that, too.

The problem with choosing names is that no name is going to please everyone! It's impossible to find one that does. So you and hubby should just pick what you love, and when everyone meets the babies and starts to associate the names with them, they'll like the names too.
:kiss::kiss:

I love all of them, i think you should choose which ones you and hubby
love the most. I know its difficult, but dont listen to family/friends as theres
bound to always be someone who wont like what you choose and you cant
please everyone. x
