Just been to see my gp as advised to if unsuccessful after 6months as over 35.

She basically said if I'm having regular periods then I'm ovulating- even tho my charting etc shows I'm not , no positive opks ever , no CM. I feel like no-one is taking me seriously. She then went straight to nhs IVF guidelines and pointed out my bmi was way too high to qualify for IVF so my plan of action should be concentrating on reducing that ( I am anyway) but I thought there was loads of other things to look at before IVF? I know there are lots of reasons a person could have regular periods but not ovulate aren't there? Feel completely dismissed :(

Sounds like a crap gp. There's loads you can do before ivf. For starters you'd need hormone levels and hubby's sperm analysing then they'd take it from there by referring to a fertility specialist. I know normally you have to wait two years for that but not sure if they would do it sooner as you're over 35. Either way I'd get a second opinion. Have a look at the nhs infertility pages as they are quite useful

Sounds like my dr although I'm only 26 with a 2 year old I'm not ovulating and have very irregular periods, have charted the past two months and have blood test to see if i ovulated this cycle and came back negative but she said because I have periods although they are irregular then I must ovulate. It's so annoying. Could you try see another dr, I'm having one more blood test and if it comes back negative and she doesn't refer me to someone who knows what they are talking about I will be seeing someone else x

That's totally not true! I tried for 19 months for my daughter and I rarely ovulated, but I had periods like clockwork every month! I had undiagnosed PCOS.

Thanks ladies, I knew she was talking rubbish but you hope that medical professionals will know stuff u don't , I waited months to see her coz was told she is the best doc at the practise :(

Definitely request a second opinion, take copies of your charts and be prepared to be a bit pushy. No idea why she would have gone straight to IVF website as a previous poster has said there are lots of things to investigate before that route. I would have questioned why she did that.
