I always swore I would never watch any but now that delivery is approaching slowly I was too curious. I thought I would be really freaked out and would refuse to let my little one out BUT they actually made me really calm about the process. It doesn't actually look as hard as "horror" stories claim it to be or how they show it in the movies etc.

One thing I noticed was the mothers attitude, state of mind played a HUGE role in how painful, stressful or prolonged the process was.

Anyone else watched any videos etc?

I love watching birth videos. I'm also a birth professional, so it's part of my job. I've seen all sorts of different ones. Where you give birth, how prepared you are, etc all play a role in childbirth. I do not however like to watch "birth shows" on TV like the American One Born Every Minute because those women just lay in bed and it's so unrealistic to how childbirth is suppose to be (and what I'm use to since most my clients have homebirths or natural births in the hospital).

I've seen a few birth videos and agree attitude and environment are really important. The other thing is position of your baby, if they're lined up and ready to go that's great but wrong way round or back to back can make it harder.

I watched my niece be born, so I am not a stranger to the whole process, but I've watched several on youtube, natural and medicated, and they are very interesting to me. I even got DH to watch a couple and he was amazed. I think it helped prepare him for what he is going to have to see me go through. It did, however, put him off in the sex department for a day or so  but he got over it!

And I agree with Natural Momma, the tv shows OBEM and any others are still dramatized with little reality. I don't watch them because these people know they're on tv, they're getting paid to act a certain way and it's not how we should be learning to approach our births.

I am hoping to be able to give birth naturally and unmedicated but since this is my first I am open to everything. My birth plan basically just states that before they do anything ask me first and what I say should be the final answer.

I just want to avoid having unnecessary procedures just because its "easier" for the doc. I even watched a natural birth of a breech baby and since the doctor knew what he was doing it was very simple, no tearing etc. I just wish I get someone educated, whose first instinct isn't to cut me open anywhere in my body.

Can any of you recommend (post links of) specific videos to watch? I'm a little nervous to watch them, but also trying to do all I can to prepare myself.

What the pp said. I've been watching OBEM thinking it was real. Just now, I went to YouTube and searched labor and would up watching a phillipino lady give birth on a dirty floor. This s dangerous territory!
