I have to tell my manager before my 12 week scan and before i am confirmed in post... this is not ideal and she is not gonna be happy as another member of staff started maternity leave the other week and another member of staff declared they were 10 weeks pregnant a few weeks ago... :( i need some words to help me feel less scared lol xx

Why do you have to spill the beans so soon? In the uk you have until week 25 to inform your employer? Get yourself confirmed in post first and then you have all your legal rights perhaps?
You shouldn't be scared even if she isn't happy you have the right to be pregnant and the right not to be treated unfairly because of that.

You will do great! If she gets mad, oh well, she can shove it :)

Oh i forgot to explain that part.. oops! I was planning to tell her right after my scan as i dont want to be doing 12.5 hour night shifts anymore and in order to be taken off them she obv has to know. Only i now find out that after my scan date the manager is unavailable for 4 days and after that i am on annual leave for a week :/ my OH has been wanting me to tell her for a while now as he worries due to me working with people prone to challenging behaviour (sometimes lashing out). Thanks girls :) x

In that case you do need to tell and you also need to insist that a risk assessment is done as soon as possible to protect you. If you work with challenging behaviour your company should already have a policy on risk assessing duties of pregnant women.
Is it a private company or is it part of the health service or education authority or social services. if you are public sector this will be much easier to insist on.

Its a charity but i know they do a risk assessment as soon as you tell them :D im not worried about that bit too much and i know they will also stop me working with certain people etc. Im just being a big wimp being scared of breaking the news :( x

Oh just get it over and done with then I would say! Try not to go in looking sheepish and nervous about telling them as if you have done something wrong. Go in with a massive smile on your face and tell them you have some happy news and don't even be in the slightest bit apologetic about the timing or anything. It is happy news anyway.
The manager would have to be an evil cow to be nasty to someone who is clearly so happy to be pregnant!

Thats true Kat2504 :D Thanks for the advice!! My manager is.... not quite normal... but im sure if i show how happy i am about such a blessing then she will be ok! I cant wait to be able to be openly excited all the time :D and for people to realise im not being lazy.. im just exhausted and feeling sick! x
