I can't find two sources that agree! I'm 12 weeks on thurs, was hoping to hold out til 16 weeks as I have huge boobs (F-G) and I need the support. I did buy some wire free ones today and will wear them at home or if I feel like it when going out etc but don't wanna give up the wire just yet! I really wanna save the maternity bras for later to stop them wearing out. Also I bought one slightly large for me to grow in to, so it doesn't quite fit yet.

But I did have a breast lump the other day (now gone) and worried it was a blocked duct from the wire...thoughts? When are you giving up the wire?

I think it all depends on how quick you are growing. I am falling out of my bras and currently at 15w3d. That was my first symptom, so it depends. If you need to then start wearing them, the only problem i find is that some are so thin, you can practically see my bits and pieces!!

For me, I always start when I find out i am pregnant. I feel much better in sports bras. In the first few weeks they are so sensitive too, it just seemed the best way to go!

I bought some yesterday, although mine are only small they have started swelling and feeling tender. I'm wearing one now as it's really comfy but I think I'll just go with how I feel. I wore my usual bras for quite a while last time and probably will this time when I'm out and about but at home and lazying about I'll wear these just for the comfort. Obviously once I get further along I'll have to wear these but for now that's my plan

I switched to maternity bras literally at about 38 weeks last time

I just stayed in my underwire/padded bras I think I'm mad lol. Mine are a D cup so get huge as soon as I'm pregnant and I like the support.

I wear an F-G so my sports bras have underwire. :dohh:

Yes mine were really sore at 5-6 weeks (just from hormones) but fine until now. Now my nipples are a little sore and boobs overall tender so I think I'm growing.

I guess I will keep wearing the wire I have til it doesn't fit and then move onto the wire free. But I will also begin to wear the wire free one I got that fits my current size, might as well.

There's no reason to give up wearing underwired bras (except for comfort) before your milk comes in. Last time I swapped about 20wks as the wire hurt my rib cage.

I never stopped wearing underwired bras either! I don't like wearing non-wired ones. It's all about how comfortable you are, there's no set time you should stop wearing them.

Honestly, I've never heard of a rule to stop wearing underwire while pregnant, so this is news to me. I never wore a maternity bra with my first pregnancy. They aren't necessary unless you feel you need one. After I gave birth I needed a very gentle wire-free nursing bra because my ribs hurt so much, but a regular bra never bothered me during pregnancy. I just needed a bigger size as my ribcage and boobs got bigger. Keep wearing whatever is comfortable!

I never stopped wearing underwires, either. After I gave birth, I bought a nursing bra that didn't have wires, but even the I still wore other bras with wires. I never had a problem with it. Then again, I have giant boobs (J cup when I was nursing, H cup when not), and it's hard to find a bra in my size that doesn't have wires!

I think I'll just stick to my current plan of waiting another month to get into the wirefree ones.

If you are sized properly, there is no need to go wirefree. I have a lovely Cake Lingerie underwire nursing bra that is very comfortable. I wore a J cup once my gals settled down post-delivery with my son and am sizing up to K/L/M for a few nursing bras. For wirefree, I do like the tank tops that Glamourmom carries. Really, it is up to you. I only got a blockage once because I hadn't properly put myself into a bra and it was riding up on my lower breast.

In that case, just wear what feels supportive and comfortable! Wired or not!

I still wear my pre pregnancy 32g bras oops! Lol.
I can't be dealing with non underwire bras unless I can find a very supportive one. I do think I need to go up a cup size though..

My first pregnancy I wore wire bras throughout whole pregnancy. This one, a few weeks before I even found out I stopped wearing wire bras because my breasts have been so sensitive and sore.

I have the same issues as you! I have big boobs, which I can't stand most of the time. I'm almost 11w and my boobs grew several sizes just in the last few weeks. They are SO sore all of the time. I'm at a 34G now, I really hope they stop growing soon.

With my first, I only used non-wired bras after I had my daughter. I had to, I got clogged ducts several times and they are THE WORST! But you're right - the non wired ones such for us big breasted girls! Why is it so hard to find a good fitting bra. The good ones are like $80+. I don't like sports bras because they squish my boobs together and give me a uniboob lol. It's a constant battle for me too.

Up until like 10 week or so my boobs were SOOO incredibly sore that I couldn't stand to wear a wire bra lol. I lived in my sports bra. At about 12 weeks they just stopped hurting and now I wear one whenever I go out. It doesn't bug me at all. I have D boobs (although probably bigger now) so I need the support. Wear one if you feel comfortable enough in it!
