Hi All just a thread for those with low iron, looking for an easier fix.

Due to suffering from a severe easily upset bowel-- When I was told my HG was 9.7 and my Ferritin stores of iron were at 8! I could have cried!

Some of you ladies mentioned Spatone a natural water you can get from Boots or most pharmacys but it is available on the NHS via your GP! JUST ASK!

I have taken 2 sachets first thing each morning for 2 weeks with about 100mls of Fresh Orange Juice.

In 2 weeks my HG has gone up to 10 and my Iron stores Ferritin are now at 13!

Ferritin is considered normal at 15-150, and HG is o.k 10.5 or above at this stage in pregnancy.... So I may just get my home birth yet.

I've been having this each morning in a glass of orange juice since I found out I was pg & my iron is still at 13.0. Was at 13.5 on my 8 week appt. It's fab stuff and because you have it in OJ there's some vitamin C and fibre ( if you get the OJ with bits in) too
xx

I've been buying this, didn't realise you could get it on prescription!

Don't know if it's worked yet in my case as my bloods haven't been done again since but I was only borderline anyway so I'm sure it'll be fine. TMI but no black poo or constipation with this either!!

I've just been prescribed spatone, I was considering buying it as iron tablets were making me sick. Went to the midwife and she phoned the doctor and put a prescription through for me, free! She said the doctors don't like giving it out as its expensive!

spatone is great stuff. didn't know you could get it on the nhs but will be asking about it as I don't absorb iron well so take it whether pregnant or not - Boots often have it on 3 for 2 which is worth looking out for if you don't get it prescribed

Completely agree -- I was on iron tablets for a year after the birth of my daughter - and my iron levels never went up -- after taking spatone it went up in a few weeks!! Brilliant stuff!!

I just went out an bought this stuff today as my doctor emailed me to say I had become mildly anemic and needed an iron supplement. After doing a bunch of research I decided on this one since everyone had such good things to say! Then I come home and check the forums and here is this thread!
