The last few weeks, I have had increasing pain in my groin/pelvic area. It makes it hard for me to lift my legs enough to even walk. The stairs are killing me too. I also have some sharp pain in my tail bone area sometimes.

The pain is making life very hard for me at the moment because I am struggling to get on with my household chores. Plus, we only have one bathroom and it's upstairs, so I am having to climb the stairs a lot and it's killing me!

Does this sound like SPD? I'll be seeing my midwife later in the week and I will discuss it with her, but can others who have SPD let me know if this sounds like what I might have? Can you describe your symptoms?

Yep thats SPD and there is nothing that really helps until you give birth. Luckily you are not too far off! There are some things you can do to ease the pain like moving around slower, not doing as much as you are used to, using lots of pillows in bed for support, I know what you're going through. I'm suffering from it too and have been since about 20 weeks

My symptoms are pain at my symphysis pubis (pelvis area) and my lower back in the middle near the spine when I move around, walk around like when we go shopping, carrying groceries, walking up the stairs (we live on the 3rd floor and I am using the elevator to come upstairs now) doing household chores, pretty much everything. SO I have to rest alot. And getting comfy in bed is really hard to do as well.

Sounds like it.
I went to the hospital 2 days ago and was told what I'm experiencing is SPD pain and all she offered me was to go and buy a maternity support band. Dont see how that will help.
The pain started about 3 weeks ago, horrible shooting pains from my back to my leg on my right side. Ive only just started walking properly again.
And now its gone in my pelvic area and im getting quite bad period pains and it just feels really heavy down there all the time.
Midwife said its all normal though! X

i really recommend a support band

is an instant releif for me (well still hurts abit, but compared to my usuaul pain i cant complain)

i got mine for 13£ on ebay,

when i wear my belt i can do my coat up, so is a nice additional benifit lol

most of my pain is in my lower back, hips and bum cheeks

YES Defo! Mine was mainly in my pubic bone I also cant lift my legs etc. Im not 36 weeks and cant sleep because of it, see a physio and push it else they do sod all. Baths and a exercise/birthing ball helps me x

I went to a physio session today for spd which is now known as pgp ( pelvic griddle pain ) I find going to bed a nitemare. Whichever side I sleep on my hip locks up and pain shoots down my lower back, butt and into my leg. There isn't much they can do, I was told the belt doesn't always work and as u can't wear it at nite when my pain is greatest its useless to me :( I was given pelvic floor exercises to follow and offered crutches... I didnt get a magic solution :( gonna buy more pillows. I heard a memory foam body pillow works wonders gonna give that a go .... !

I think i have it too, the midwife didnt say it was but i said im having really bad pelvic, hip and leg and back pain, and she is referring me to a physio and said theyll give me a support band. x

Thanks for the replies. The pain is even worse today and now I am having period type pains too. I am in tears today. I took some paracetamol, but it hasn't even touched the pain.

I'm going to look for a support belt. I'm plus size, so I have a feeling that I will be out of luck.

I hope all of you are coping ok. This sucks! I guess I am lucky that I didn't get this earlier. I don't know how you girls have coped that have it since much earlier on.

Sorry you are suffering too. I have been for physio but it hasnt really helped yet. They said to give it 6 weeks doing the exercises every day. I have a fact sheet and some exercises I can send through to you if you want to have a look. PM me your email address.

I think the key is resting and i'm finally giving in to my DH's demands that I do nothing! its hard to do nothing but it really does help. xx

sounds crazy but ive been suffering from that too so much so i cant lay in bed in one position for more than a hour without nearly bean in tears with pain i find walking helps during the day i still take dog out 3 times a day and it tends to strech my legs cos they get stiff during the day i no it hurts like helll but try xxx

Yes it sounds like SPD - I have it too :-( I have a 3 storey house, not fun!! I have had physio and this time it hasn't helped but it did in my last pregnancy. I have been given a belt on the nhs, not convinced it works :-(
SPD you need to be careful as you move as you can make it worse.

On the plus side hunny, we've not got toooooo much longer to go!!

I was diagnosed with this last week and considering how common it is, I was a bit surprised how little they can do for it. I was given a strip of tubi-grip or whatever its called, like those socks they give you for DVT. It's not attractive but it does relieve it a little bit. Only thing is, it's too hot to sleep in and thats when the pain is at it's strongest. I found a warm bath and/or hot water bottle at least once a day helps more, although it's probably more psychological than physical.

That's definitely spd/PGP. I've had it since week 20 and for the last 7 weeks or do I've been on crutches and codeine painkillers. I was having weekly physio sessions but I stopped going a couple of weeks ago as I found it wasn't helping me at all and sometimes it'd actually make things worse. I was given a support belt too but again found this wasn't any help to me.

Ultimately as others have said though the only 'cure' is giving birth and my midwife has told me even then it may not give you instant relief and you still might require physio for a few more weeks before you feel back to normal.

Mines now so bad I'm considering putting a mattress downstairs to sleep on so I don't have to keep going upstairs. I can't lift my daughter and turning over in bed just isnt ossicle anymore as it feels like I'm being ripped in two!

Really hope you find some relief as its no fun at all!

X

Its spd... I have it from 23 weeks.... OB said increasing iron suppliment might work.... But i did not increase it yet.... She suggested a support belt, which i bought 2 days back... I feel it helps gradually... I feel a slight change in pain since then....

Take rest, stay off the foot, whenever possible.... Keep knees together always, especially when you turn in bed etc.. Dont squat, or sit in squatting position, even to pick something from floor.....

Dont worry, we all will get through this... All we can do is to avoid doin whatvcauses pain...

I've been suffering the same kind of pain too, for about a week now, and actually just wrote a post similar to yours wondering if it was spd. It's miserable. I dread getting up from a sitting position, getting dressed, climbing into the car, turning over at night, etc.

Now I REALLY want this little girly to come at 37 weeks! No longer!

Thanks, girls. It's not much fun is it? I'm glad I am not alone. :hugs:We will get through it. My Mom was crying to me on the phone because she hates for me to be in pain (she is in the US and I am in England) and I told her not to worry so much. At least it's not life threatening and the baby is fine. I just hope the next few weeks fly by!

My husband is working in Germany, so I am all alone. I think I'll have to find a cleaner to come help with some of the cleaning.

I hope you girls can find some relief and the rest of the time flies by.:hugs:

There are some basic things you can do to try and ease the pain, they're not medical, just basic movements.... Going up/down stairs- one step at a time, lead up with the better leg, and down with the sorest. Get up slowly and carefully, support yourself if you can. Keep legs together when getting in/out of a car or bed, if you're lifting things try and keep the weight evenly balanced and not too heavy. If you can, don't hoover or push a shopping trolley (makes you do side twists with your hips). Sleep on your side with your legs drawn up and a pillow between them. Try not to take strides as well when you're walking....

Mine is so bad now i have pain when wiping after having a wee because im so sensitive it feels severely bruised, find it hard gettin dressed, cleaning, walking is a nightmare.. dont suffer babe tell ur midwife x
