Spontaneous Ovulation while on Birth Control

I am currently on birth control, waiting to be put on Clomid. Yesterday I noticed pains in my left ovary area. It would come and go throughout the night and then today I had one sharp pain, and that was it. Could I have ovulated even though I am on birth control? I am taking Metformin and have lost 20 pounds. It felt just like ovulation, which I have not felt in almost a year.

The pill I was on didn't always stop ovulation (cerazette) it did an number of things it also made the lining too thick for a fertilized to implant so if ovulation occurred it wouldn't result in pregnancy.
Also don't forget some women never miss a pill and still get pregnant while taking it... No ovulation no baby!
