Omar still doesn't use a spoon or a fork. I struggle to get him to eat most of the time this is why I spoon feed him.
I have to try harder as I visited a friend yesterday who's son is almost 5 but he still can't use a spoon properly as he's also a fussy eater & his mum preferred to spoon feed him to get food into his tummy
Lucy has just started on a spoon and fork... it's a messy business though but she will only learn by practicing. She is pretty good and gets a good percentage in her mouth... I'm usually at hand with the wet wipes...
Amelie was really quite young (10 months and she was totally feeding independantly) but I know from friends children that most of them were closer to 18m before using them confidently.
My LO still doesn't use a spoon yet, I give her one every mealtime but she prefers to play with it instead she does sometimes dip it into her food and then put it in her mouth so she is getting there, slowly.
We've been trying for a while now but it's still difficult, I think it's just going to take perseverance. I have the problem of lo trying to tip his bowl - it's a suction bowl but he still manages. He still can't scoop himself so we have to scoop and either leave on the tray or in the bowl for him to pick up. xxx
Patrick was about 16 months before he could use a spoon and fork properly himself - he prefered us spoonfeeding him. Now its the opposite - he screams at us if we try to feed him so now dinnertimes take about an hour!!! xx
Thank you as always lovlies!!! he has got the general idea but he just "dips" and shoves it in bless him so would take forever if i didnt help him. Sounds like a walking spectrum again some early some later xx
Molly's been using a spoon since about 10months with a bit of control but is better now. She's just started to understand how her fork works and now 'stabs' things with it.
My lo is just starting to feed herself with a spoon. She's too dangerous to be let loose with a fork lol.
She is quite happy to put the spoon in things and put it to her mouth but she rarely gets much on it.
TBH i'm usually in too much of a rush to let her feed herself - it's easier for me to feed her.
Bun has been using a spoon/fork for about a year now. We did BLW so once he could handle finger foods he wanted to use cutlery like us. Though at that point he was using a spoon in one hand and his fingers with the other. Now he can use spoon/fork and can spread things like jam with a knife if you give him enough time!
Just recently actually. Probably like a month ago at 14 months.
He's done pretty well with the fork, I've given him a lot of foods he can easily "stab" with the fork and he's not so good with the spoon yet but I haven't been practicing that much. Everytime I scream "STAB!" he knows, he needs to stab his food and put it in his mouth lol!
DD has recently got better with her spoon, and will use it herself sometimes. When she's hungry, she'll pass me or DH the bowl and spoon, cause it's less work for her. Then after she's settled into the meal she'll do it herself, and eventually gets bored and then the hands go in. I find sometimes it's good to have two spoons, one for her to play with and one for me to serve with.
Also about 2 weeks ago she was on skype with her grandparents for dinner, and they clapped and cheered when she used the spoon herself. She got so proud of herself, and now stops sometimes to clap and expects us to clap too
Alfie was BLW & i have always let him eat with his hands but i have always put a spoon out for him too. He wasnt too interested before but lately he has been playing with it & tries to eat with it. He knows what its for & has the action, he just cant get food on to it yet. He will quite happily eat from a pre-loaded spoon & from my fork lol
