What stairgates do you all have?

on our back door we have one that you push a bit of plasic over & lift the gate up & pull towards you to open.

https://www.lindam.com/product/safety-gates/safety/metal-single-panel.html

on LOs door is a lindam one where you push both sides in & lift the handle up.

https://www.lindam.com/product/safety-gates/safety/easy-fit-plus.html

LO can open both of these now :(

i fear for her safety as we are in a flat & the back door doesnt lock!! so now she can open these she can get out onto the main road.. not that i dont keep an eye on her but i mean at night time when im asleep..

tonight OH has jammed the backdoor shut with a piece of wood from outside but we cant do that everynight.

help please!

How about this, I find ours difficult to open. You have to be able to push down with your thumb and lift then lift the whole barrier out.

We have a plastic Lindam one that Daisy has been able to open for ages and we also have a wooden mothercare one at the top opf the stairs and she can't open that one.

We have this one at the top of the stairs:

And this one which we moved about from the bottom of the stairs, outside on the decking steps, living room etc.:

Both very good. Bubs can close the top one but can't open it ;) result.

I don't have a stairgate suggestion as we have the first one that your lo can already open.

Surely a bolt would be cheaper and far safer overall? It's not safe to have no security on your home - plus uour insurance wouldn't pay out if you got burgled and you don't have a lock on the door.

ideally i do want the door fixed properly.. but we are private rented.
The landlady almost threw us out because we put the stair gates up (she knew i was pregnant when we moved in so pretty obvious - in my eyes that means gates would eventually be needed).. :dohh: she is fixing it, apparently. its been like it for 3 weeks now. :(

Thank you girls for all the links, will have a look into those. Cant believe she can open them so easily. :dohh:

I would for sure make a point to the landlord this is a must to fix asap- or, she should approve a deadbolt being installed at the top of the frame (so LO is safe). Otherwise, could you put a knob protector on the doors- so she can't open them? Or could she figure that out too?

You could also get a door alarm- we have some that simply install with sticky backs. They aren't super loud (but cheap and work well)- so, if the alarm was on, and LO tried to open the door the alarm would sound and at least warn you. I can't imagine that would be an land lord issue as they can easily be removed.

Seems you got some good gate options... our are bolted in, so prob no help there if your landlord is that particular. Best of luck!

will look into the dooknob protectors & alarms  didnt think of those. Thank you x

we go away on Friday so i'll tell landlord it gets fixed while im away or OH will put a lock on the door while im gone..

tbh i think LO would wake me up when she gets out her room but you never know, shes trouble so could do anything. :dohh:

oh god i would be terrified in a house if i couldnt lock the door

what one EARTH is your landlord thinking?

im not sure i would be happy to go away and leave the place unlocked, your house insurance probably wouldnt cover you if you were burgled as a result

landlord is an idiot. she shouldnt be a landlord. 4 months of no washing machine with a reflux 3month old baby. then no heating for 3.5 months when LO was 8 months old (over winter).

thankfuly OH is staying home the first 2 days we are away as hes going to scrub all the mould off the living room wall. (cant do it with LO around).

going to ring landlady tomorrow & say if the back door isnt fixed then bolts are going up on Sunday & she will get the bill.. xx

oh god thats awful, fingers crossed she gets her finger out now

I sympathise with you. Our landlord has kicked off over our stair gates....till our homestart volunteer got involved! Our back door used to stick and at 31 week's pregnant I was having to yank it so hard I pulled a muscle. After 3 weeks of waiting, OH plained it off himself! Still waiting for the front door to be painted 18 months after moving in and been waiting 4 weeks for our bedroom window to be fixed so it actually closes!

Agggh landlords ey! X
