who believes that it's not okay to stand in front of the microwave while pregnant?

This is new to me! lol!:happydance:

I've never even thought about that before! Deffo something worth looking into!

i've heard people dont do it because it exposes the baby to radiation from the microwave.

I wouldn't, doesn't it have a high electromagnetic field around it too? Most appliances do but I think microwaves are particulalry bad. But then saying that, we live in a world full of wireless signals from home hubs, mobile phones, ect... it's hard to get away from all of those potential risks if you know what I mean.

Sorry but I think this is a step too far. There's being sensible about things like not drinking alcohol, not smoking, not eating offal etc etc and there's being overcautious and ridiculous.

I never considered it before, but like sezrah says, with the amount of signals etc around now it would be impossible to avoid everything.

Ooh this thread brought back a memory. When I was pregnant with DS who is now 12, my DH nan showed me how her ancient microwave worked with the door OPEN! Luckily it was next to a wall which I hid my bump behind!

We condemened that microwave and bought her a new one lol.

But we have so many more things beaming through our bodies these days that I doubt a modern microwave will do any harm.

I must admit I won't carry my mobile in my pocket any more though.

It's ok to stand in front of it if the Microwave is not damaged or leaking.

My sister is a science teacher and does an experiment with this. If you put your phone in the microwave and then phone it (obviously while off!!) the phone won't ring if the microwave is in good order as the signal won't get through. If the phone rings you need a new microwave and I wouldn't stand in front of it while preggers!!

I saw something about this on TV once- apparently if you stand right next to the microwave there is some radiation, even with new microwaves, but it drops sharply to almost nothing if you even take a step away. I didn't stand right next to the microwave while heating something when I wasn't pregnant (it's at head height), and I don't now, although I know it's far from certain that there's any danger from it. I just don't have any reason usually to spend much time right next to the microwave!

i dont but never did anyone i get bored waiting for somthing to cook so i go get myself a drink or go to the loo or something while its on, i would not worry unles you were standing infront of it all day

to be honest i havent really given this much thought, i have a few times but thats for a few seconds only...mmm dont think i will in future tho just incase lol x x

i never thought about it but my hubby is very pedantic about it if he sees me standing near it while its on he scolds me..lol..he says ITS MY BABY TOO BE MORE CAREFUL!i think its cute

I must be a freak cause I don't even remember the last time I used my microwave let alone stood in front of it while it was on. But I definitly do want to try that phone test.

Have a quick look, interesting! safe, as long as they are not leaking or you're standing in front of them all day! lol

The microwave if functioning properly won't give off Radiation to harm you or your baby. However why would you really want to stand in front of it? Put your stuff in, press go and make your toast while your beans cook:) :)
