Hi all looking for some reassurance really... Evie was born 6lb 9oz and bottle fed from birth on aptamil..weighed at 5 days and only lost 70g which mw was very happy with. She is a good eater imo and tends to feed every 2-3 hours and takes anything between 2 and 3.5 oz. Today she is 12 days old and we had a different community midwife visit us... she weighed her and she has only gained 5g in 7 days?! Shes coming to weigh her again on monday but im totally baffled that she can eat so much and gain so little...she has lots of wet and dirty nappies and seems well to me. Is it possible the scales were not accurate as she used them on the floor (carpet)? Usual mw used them on our dining table as she said she needed a hard surface. Worrying here so would love to hear othet experiences or advice thank you xxx

Yes, exactly that. Different scales are differently calibrated and they should always weigh them on a hard surface, not on carpet, to get the most accurate reading. Sounds like she did a sloppy job. But simply the fact that she's gaining weight is a good thing and I doubt you have anything to be worried about. Babies naturally hit plateaus and they may weigh more or less depending on if they were just fed, or just did a big pee or poo right before, etc. just like us adults. My daughter was born the same weight as yours and didn't regain her birth weight for A MONTH! (There was a lot of concern about this as she had a terrible time eating as she couldn't latch properly and was very sleepy since she was on the early side). IMO, if she's eating well, having lots of wet/dirty nappies, and putting on weight generally, she's doing fine.

Thanks for that I agree she was sloppy tbh I was just reading through her notes and its like she wasnt listening to a word I said! She wrote that she is eating 3-4oz every 2-3 hours when I said anything between 2 and 3 grr. She did generally seem like she couldn't be bothered so im gonna not worry and take her to be weighed in clinic on monday to put my mind at ease xx
