I am PUPO and taking steroids (prednisone). My instructions were if its a BFN I start weaning off but if its a BFP I continue taking the 20mg until 8 weeks and then start to wean off them. However my doctor through a spanner in the works at transfer day and told me to think about what I want to do because taking these steroids increase the chance of a cleft lip/palate. I either wean off at 4 weeks or 8 weeks its my decision.

I know nothing about steroids or cleft lip and planning to do some reading on the internet but in the meantime was wondering if anyone had any experience, advise or comments on this?

If I wean off early does this increase the risk of miscarriage? How dangerous is a cleft lip/palate to a newborn?

Thanks :flower:

OMG I had no idea about the cleft lip etc....wow, I will be on steroids for my ivf so I am interested to hear what would be best.

I was told to wean off at 10 weeks.

I had no idea about the clef lip either! I was on prednisone from week two of stims to 12 weeks of pregnancy, I was then slowly weaned off them. I am about to start my third round in a couple of weeks so will ask them about it then!

Good luck!

There are studies that actually have proved that there is not an increased risk of cleft palate if you take them during pregnancy. Is your doctor a reproductive immunologist? In my opinion they are the only ones who really know how to use steriods for infertility. I would not have gotten pregnant without them, and IVIg unfortunately. I weaned off at 19 1/2 half weeks. My baby girl does not have a cleft lip. Let us know how you do.

Thanks ladies for sharing your experience. I did some reading too and I was also under the impression that if there is a correlation between the two it is minimal. Based on what did you doctor decide which weeks you should start weaning off? Did you do further testing? Thanks a lot, this is really helpful.

Pinkie, i will let you know what the reproductive immunologist who prescribed steroid says.

I am seeing a reproductive immunologist and they weaned me based on my natural killer cells and cytokines level. They would test me every 3 weeks and then would drop me down by 5mg until my levels were good enough to stop.

Thanks for the responses and advice ladies, much appreciated.

My doc is a specialist in reproductive medicine not an immunologist, she wasn't my original doc who recommended I take them on this cycle so maybe her views are slightly different? I have done some reading myself and you're right there does seem to be evidence online that says it doesn't increase the chance. A lot of cleft lips/palates are due to genetics, not taking folic acid, smoking, alcohol and a poor diet. 1 in 700 babies are born with it which is a lot more than I thought. For me, the risk is minimal and I have decided if I am pregnant I will continue taking them until the recommended 12 weeks.

Congratulations to everyone who had a success pregnancy with these, I hope it is working for me too.

Thanks again :flower:

Why did she say she wanted you on the steriods?

I've had two failed ICSI cycles where I had good embryos transferred. My original doctor recommended I take them to increase my chances of implantation.

Could the use of SARMs affect a child's possible harelip? If anyone has information about this, please share.

Undoubtedly, alcohol, smoking, drugs, and a bad environment are harmful to pregnancy. But most often, the diagnosis of cleft lip is due to heredity, biological inferiority of germ cells, or maternal infectious diseases. To look beautiful, a friend exercised and took SARMs for quite a long time. SARMs for Sale by Paradigm Peptides were in her diet. When she was thinking of giving birth through IVF, she was concerned about whether her SARM craze would affect the baby. In addition, she had to take prednisone as prescribed by her doctor. But her fears were in vain, and the baby was born healthy.

I initially used a smarter strategy and used non-steroidal supplements instead of steroids, even if they have side effects on the body.
