At my 6 week check up, my midwife said I had healed well from my stitches, I think from a 3rd degree tear. She did say I may have troubles pooping and may need to hold my perineum to poop??? or it just may be healing still...I should have asked more questions but my baby was along and really fussy.

Anyway the last week OMG does it hurt to poop, I took a stool softner and it helped (figured it was ok casue they gave me a couple in the hospital and I was breastfeeding), this weekend baby was gassy and fussy could it be from the stool softner (docusate sodium)????

I feel I need to be on something to keep my stools soft until I am properly healed down there. I will put a call into Midwife later, just wondering if anyone else has had these problems.

Thank you

I have been exactly the same but i took lactalose (sp?) that seemed fine for me and baby.. sorry i am no help on the stool softener bit.. but i would get lactalose its brilliant and completely safe when BFing..

Oh i do feel sorry for our below regions after childbirth!

I came out of hospital with Lactulose on prescription (which is a stool softener) but whilst I was in hospital they had me on Fybogel as well which will also help. Remember to drink loads of water too, as BF saps a lot and can dehydrate you and that will make your stools firmer and more painful too.

I finally got back to normal with regards to bowels movements at about 10 weeks, I had pain & bleeding up until then. :hugs:
