I'm just wondering if anyone else's LO hates having dirty hands? Lately when Jacob always hated getting paint etc on his hands when we were painting but lately this has extended to his eating too. When he is having anything at all to eat, he gets so stressed if he gets it on his hands at all and holds his hand out shouting "wash hands, wash hands" or "wash finger" We BLW so he has been used to getting his hands mucky from an early age but this is getting to be a nightmare as he just gets so upset and it makes mealtimes awful for us all as half the time is spent trying to calm him down, reassure him or constantly wiping his hands between every mouthful of food he takes.
I really hope this is normal and just a phase. :(

My cousin was the same at this age, he was also obsessed about cleaning his hands & everything else, he couldnt see any dirt around, he used to wash his hands all day. Now he's almost five, & it's getting better.

Omar doesnt like his hands to get dirty, but he's been the same since he was a baby, I'm used to it. He will only eat dry food with his hands.

My nephew did this. It was tiring. He wouldn't play with his shoes off, he was constantly asking to have his hands washed. It was a phase though, he's a well adjusted silly 8 year old now.

Thank you. I was starting to worry that there was maybe something else going on as he does seem to have sensory issues - he's a late walker too as he's only been walking 4 weeks, he seemed to hate anything on his feet from the beginning, hated being in a bouncer, walker etc. He hates the swimming pool and sand on his feet. He is getting braver now and loves rough and tumble which he used to hate. So hopefully he will grow out of this too.

He will likely grow out of it! When Bun was first walking he hated having bare feet - didn't like the sand, grass, or anything on his feet. Now he's totally fine with it and getting braver with everything else too. He isn't too fussed about dirty hands. He used to hate wet sand on them but I taught him to brush his hands together to get the sand off. Sometimes when he eats certain things he'll want them washed, but we keep a wet cloth on the table and he will do it himself now! He doesn't seem to mind the REALLY sticky stuff on his hands though - like PB&J! lol

And so excited to hear Jacob is walking!! :happydance: You must be so proud! :D

Katie is a bit fussy when it comes to manky hands.

She lets me clean them if need be but sometimes she will ask me to clean them anyway.

But she dosen't get hysterical if they are sticky for ages.....me on the other hands hates it

Omar also doesnt like to walk on grass or sand, he also hates rough carpets, he prefers the feeling of smooth stuff on his hands or feet, he loves to walk on the silk rugs at home & the cold laminate floor. He's highly sensitve.

Urrrgh Carpets *shudders*

Especially when people run their palms across them

From about 2-2.5 years Aaron absolutely hated getting his hands dirty and he used to freak out at various different textures. It's just a phase though, he has absolutely no problems with getting messy now! :D

Thanks everyone, I feel reassured now :)
and Sun, yes I'm sooooo happy, 4 weeks now and he's running rings round me lol

One question - was he a prem baby?

My nephew was 7 weeks prem and apparently prem babies are more likely to do this - they do grow out of it though so i wouldn't worry too much.

He was 2 weeks early so not really classed as prem.

Ok - as i said prem as usually a lot more obsessive about it but all children eventually get over it - at least he likes them cleaned - my 4yo is a nightmare!

Thomas has just recently started with this. He used to totally not care and would eat yoghurt or spag bol or anything with his hands. Now he asks to have his hands washed all the time while eating. I do try just keeping a wet face cloth on the table and asking him to do it himself, sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. At least it's motivating him to get a bit better at using a spoon though!

Thanks everyone, I feel reassured now :)
and Sun, yes I'm sooooo happy, 4 weeks now and he's running rings round me lol

hehe isnt it lovely though!!!! I LOVE walking around with Fynn and we are only a week in!! He is trying to run already!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAYA Just Sam to go now

Abigail is obsessed with getting her hands dirty! As soon as she sees any mud or dirt she will go and dig her hands into it :dohh:
