jacobs been reluctant to lay down for changing pretty much ever since he could roll. we swapped him to pull ups and i change him on the floor standing up. so much easier.
occassionally we still have to change him when out at a public change facility on the floating board which is a struggle but now hes so mobile (just started walking) and so strong its just impossible for me to have him lay down on the board.

i think im going to have to get down on the floor to change him like at home which i really dont relish in a public toilet!!!!!!!

anyone got any genious ways i can get round this???

Same here!

I reluctantly give Evie my iPhone to play with while i change the offending nappy. Then i stand her up on the table and put on her trousers

We used to be able to do that but now even that won't suffice :(

No advice but I DREAD Summer toileting when we are out. She's never like public changing, no idea why but she literally screams when you try lie her down.

Will be watching this thread for suggestions!

I have major problems too. Normally give her my phone or one of her sandals to play with.

No other suggestions, sorry!!

I change for Omar standing even at home. I use pull ups when we'r out & they'r very easy to change while standing. I let him stand on the toilet seat, he plays with the flush button while I clean & wipe, then I put on the nappy. He gets a good hand wash after that.

I'll give Ryan my phone or something from his changing bag, like the pot of Sudocreme to hold (or maybe just the lid) and that usually suffices. I've also found that since he has been answering questions and being more verbal (babble mostly) I can distract him by talking to him about what we will be doing next, or I will tell him what I am doing...for example:

Me: Mommy's just got to wipe your bits and then we'll get the nappy on...okay?
Him: Aaahhhh-kay. Aaahhhh-kay.
Me: And theeeeen, we'll get your trousers on and go see what we can find for lunch. Would you like a sandwich to eat? ::make sign for 'eat'::
Him: Yeah, yeah. ::makes sign for 'eat' and smiles::
Me: Would you like some water?
Him: No.
Me: Well, nearly finished. Can you show Mommy your eyes? Where are Ryan's eyes?
Him: ::points to eyes::

Etc....

It carries on like this and I basically stall until he's all changed. Or we sing a song, or "count" or play Peepo.

Distraction is paramount! Hehe.

hehe I was going to say 'just be glad you only have one to change' lol

I do the whole toilet seat thing too as it works!!! Fynn is too obsessed with the flusher and Sam is too cautious to move bless him. Just have a quick scan there isnt an emergency cord for them to pull ahem as we have been there too - very embarassing!
