Has anybody else experienced this and if so, how closely were you monitored, and what was the outcome?

I started bleeding the weekend before last and immediately went to A&E. The first doctor that I saw told me that I had to wait until the following day for a scan but she did examine me. On examining me, she told me that my cervix was open and she could see 'product'. She said that it couldn't be confirmed without a scan but she was pretty certain that I was having another mc. Naturally I was devastated and spent the night in hospital expecting a mc to be confirmed the following day. The scan the following morning showed that my cervix was actually closed and the baby was fine. Obviously I was over the moon but now I so anxious, I don't know what to do with myself.

When the bleeding was at it's heaviest, I had no pain, aside from the odd cramp (which I'd had from the beginning). However, although the bleeding has eased off a lot (completely stopping at some points), I'm having more cramping and have an uncomfortable, heavy feeling in my lower stomach and down below.

I was advised to wait it out until my anomaly scan at 20+6 and I'm wondering whether this is normal. From what I've read, the majority of people seem to be saying that their doctors have kept a close eye on them, whereas mine's doing the opposite! I'm going to have a private scan at 16 weeks but even that seems like a lifetime away. I just can't help worrying that I'm going to go for a scan at 16 weeks and it's going to show that something has gone wrong. X

I had one from 5 weeks to around 10 or 11 before I stopped bleeding. 20 week scan showed it was gone. I was checked closely, no extra scans nothing. It just went away. Xo

While I have no experience, I do think your doc should be keeping an eye on you and baby. If you are 13 weeks now (going from your ticker) 20 weeks feels like a lifetime!!

Sending you and your wee one giant internet hugs!! :hugs:

Sorry your going through this, I had a bleed after my normal 12 week scan (the scan showed nothing abnormal) a&e said nothing they could do & expect a mc.

Bleeding stopped so carried on as normal, 20 week scan was fine baby & placenta normal.

22 weeks starting bleeding admitted to hospital for 2 nights, a scan showed a large subchronic hematoma/hemorrhage, was told that if my waters break before 24 weeks then they wouldn't be able to do anything, was the most scariest moment of my life!

Since then I've had a scan every 2 weeks, I had a scan yesterday which showed the hematoma is still there but they think its getting smaller, so just going to keep monitoring it & I'm seeing a consultant soon.

It is very hard when they just want to leave you & just 'see what happens' its a very scary time, but just have to try to be positive & find comfort in that your bleeding is stopping & your scan looked good.

Unfortunately there isn't a lot they can do before a certain point I know how heart breaking that feels, but I'm now at 26 weeks & baby is just fine.

Thinking of you :hugs:

Thank you for all your replies!

I spoke to the community midwife and the EPAU this afternoon and thankfully, both were really helpful My midwife sent a referral for a follow up scan this afternoon, although she wasn't sure whether the hospital would do anything. I got a call about from the EPAU about half an hour later offering to re-scan me at 9.30 tomorrow morning.

At this point, I'm probably making myself more anxious by over-thinking everything. I just hope it shows that bub is still okay! I can't bear the thought of having another mc x

That's good that you have a follow up scan then :) it all sounds positive. Just make sure you rest as much as possible x

I had one with ds2. Bled heavily a few times between 12-14w, some spotting afterwards. NHS refused to scan me until 20w so I went for a private scan at 16w. My hematoma was about 6cm. By 20w it all resolved and I had a normal delivery at 38w.

I have one again this time, started bleeding heavily 7.5w. Most recently had a heavy flood of old blood last tues and a red bleed Friday. Again no scans offered between 12-20weeks. At my NT scan a fortnight ago it was 5.5cm.

Just rest as much as possible, don't dtd if you've been bleeding recently due to risk of infection, no lifting anything heavy. Also I find drinking plenty and emptying my bladder often can help with the cramps that can occur xx

Ps. not sure if you have one, but my doppler keeps me sane though all of the bleeds!!!

Thanks for the advice dan-o. Mine measured at 4.6cm at my 12 week scan so I'm hoping I see some shrinkage tomorrow. I'm going to have a private scan at 16 weeks- I'd pay to have one every week if I could afford it.

My hubby has said that we can't dtd for the next 6 months as he's too scared of it happening again, so I don't think I have to worry about that for a while, ha ha x

Hi all,

Thought I'd post a quick update.

Went for a follow up scan yesterday morning and unfortunately, the bleed has got bigger- it's now around 5.5cm at it's largest point. The main thing is that the baby still looks okay and they said that the SCH doesn't seem to be effecting blood flow etc.

It has put my mind at rest a little but I'm now worrying about how big bub was measuring. At my previous 2 scans, I was always measuring ahead (+1 day at 7 weeks and +4 days at 12 weeks). At my scan 10 days ago, the CRL was 6.2cm and yesterday it was 6.6cm, which puts me at about 12+6 (I should have been 13+6 yesterday, based on previous dating scan or 13+2 based on actual conception date). The sonographer and doctor didn't seem concerned and told me baby was growing at expected rate. They said it was impossible to get an accurate measurement as the baby was curled up. However, I know it should be measuring around 8cm at this point, so I'm panicking that the growth rate has slowed down- almost 1.5cm seems like a lot of length to lose, purely because bub was curled up.

I know it probably seems like I'm worrying unnecessarily when the sonographer has reassured me that everything is fine, although I lost a bit of faith in them when I saw that they'd misinterpreted the scan report. They initially told me that the SCH had shrunk significantly, until I pointed out to them that the measurements on previous scan report were in mm and yesterdays' were in cm.

God, this anxiety is driving me insane! X

I had an SCH that caused quite a bit of bleeding in the first tri, confirmed by ultrasound. However, they never gave me any information on how large it was, said that it would resolve and no follow up was needed, and never checked on it again. I'd assume that it was healed by anatomy scan since they didn't mention anything and I haven't had any bleeding for a while, but that's all I know.
