It has been a while since I found myself writing on this forum, here I go
***WARNING*** Long post but bare with me.
Hubby and I started TTcing on our honeymoon in 2006 at first we didn't time the deed just thought if it happens it happens. After a year went by and nothing we decided to start timing. My cycle was every 28 days bang on, give or take a day on occasion.
Another year nothing! During 2007 we decided to make an appt at the hospital for some investigations. Hubby had his sperm tested 3 times. All was fine. I had a Laparoscopy and they found very mild Endo but everything else was clear and in working order.
We were now classed as having unidentified Infertility, horrible word if you ask me. At least if there was something wrong we could do something about it!
After ttcing for 3yrs December 2009 we found out we were pregnant, naturally! Amazing!!
Feb 2010 at our 12 week scan we found out our worst nightmare. There was no heart beat. I had a D&C and recovered slowly. The worst part was it took us ages to get to this stage only to be struck down at what should have been a happy time. I now looked at the prospect of another 3yrs to get another bfp!!
IUI
June 2010 I was given injections to induce ovulation ready for an IUI the maximum follies to produce for IUI is 3 I produced 12 which would be perfect for IVF. IUI was cancelled.
Sept 2010 I received an IUI where Hubby's sperm was washed and inserted at my most fertile time. I was previously taking 50mg Clomid tablet form and had 3 Follies. Unfortunately this IUI failed.
Two more IUI's were done back to back in Feb and March 2011. Unfortunately these also failed.
I immediately put myself forward for IVF, Unfortunately this was not funded by the NHS.
IVF/ICSI
During the course of April/May 2011 I took 6 weeks worth of medication ready for my IVF procedure at the end of May. I responded well and 16 eggs were retrieved, excellent result. Unfortunately there was an accident with Hubbys sperm sample and they only had enough sperm left to do ICSI. Hubby had to do another sample that afternoon.
My 16 eggs were divided into two 8 were put forward for IVF and the other 8 were put forward for ICSI. One day later we found all those in the IVF dish failed to fertilise, however, the sperm were still happily swimming around just not penetrating the eggs. 4 survived the ICSI process!! Two embryos were only good enough at grade one and two and they were both transferred on 2nd June 2011.
Two Weeks Wait later on my 30th birthday, I found out I was pregnant!! I did a total of 5 tests over the course of 6 weeks. On the 7th week we had an early scan as you can imagine I was so nervous. We saw a heartbeat!! It measured 8.9mm, ok it looked like a peanut but it was still beautiful!
Our fertility journey is still a slight mystery. The problem could lie between either one of us. Either my eggs are too tough for his sperm to penetrate or his sperm is missing a sticky substance found on the head of the sperm that help them imbed into the egg.
I am now 10 weeks currently waiting for my 12 week scan, still so nervous but I have high hopes this time and feel positive. My baby is due on 22nd February 2012. All I know is that if I receive bad news again I know ICSI works and I would do it all over again. After all I did produce 16 eggs last time!!
I hope this story gives some LTTCvers some hope. Hope I almost lost!
I didn't put this in the success story forum until i have my baby in my arms. As i'm sure you understand.
