My dd is 12 weeks, (6 weeks adjusted) and the past 24hrs I have noticed that she visibly has a sunken fontanelle. I understand that this means she is becoming dehydrated. What can I do about this? Any advice please?

No advice really but to be on the safe side I would speak to your h/v or take her to the docs hun. Sure she'll be fine but best to check x

It can be a sign of dehydration but not always. You're supplimenting with fomula arent you so he may just be under the weather rather than dehydrated. I'd have it checked to be safe though especially with him being a preemie.

No I am not supplementing any more. She had her last formula on Wed but she has been cluster feeding like mad in the evening and I may have to give her a small one again to see if it helps as I am drying out after a couple of hours!!

Yeah sometimes it can be a sign of dehydration hun but not always....get Hannah checked to be sure if you're not sure but I presume she's feeding plenty (as always) and if she has plenty of wet nappies it's very unlikely that's the problem. She is quite slender though remember so maybe it's just something you've not noticed before and once you've noticed it can look more pronounced than it really is IYKWIM?

I hope she's ok babe:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

My boys always looked like that, for the first couple months but they weren't dehydrated. You might want to try supplementing just to see if it makes a diff, it might be nothing though

Oh sorry :dohh: I was thinking you had started again but you were thinking about it because of the nipple tugging thing werent you. :hugs:

@ Hevz - Is she too little for some water in the meantime Hevz?? Just to stop Logie worrying till she can get her checked??

She is very slender and yes it could be some thing I have just never really looked at before, maybe I am looking for things to go wrong now as I can't believe how easily the supplements were kicked off!

How old do they have to be for water?

Yeah Mervsmum I think because I stopped the formula and I noticed the fontanelle, the cluster feeding kicked in big time and the nipple tugging all started in the last 3 days since I stopped it you see.

Thanks for your advice ladies xxx

Because of her weigh gain probs (slow weight gain) I wouldn't recommend water coz it's empty calories you'll be filling her with. I'd feed her as much as possible if you're worried, go to the emergency Dr hun.

Mine used to tug at the nipple when they had wind and Erin latches on, drops off, latches on and drops off repetitively when she has wind. Maybe it's that. Sit her up as upright as possible for winding. I used to wind them while they were lay on my chest but I discovered that the straighter they sit up....the easier the wind seems to come out but all babies are different
Did you say she's been weeing ok?

Let me know how she is:hug:

Yeah she has been weeing fine hun. The fonatelle isn't as bad today. Think I am just being paranoid ladies. I will see how we go over the next couple of days. She is really settled most of the time so I think she would be grumpier and wanting fed more if she wasn't well. Wouldn't she?

I think so - I can understand you feeling a bit nervous as you've stopped topping her up but if she's weeing and settled I think she's fine.

I actually looked at Hebe's last night after reading this and it was more sunken lst night than this morning. Maybe they are like us and a bit of rest recharges them :hugs:

i thought Finn had a shrunken fontanelle and his poos were too runny so I worried about dehydration and took him to be checked and it was all in my head  I hope hannah is fine toox
