Sure start grant (rant) *UPDATED*

Ok, so when Laila was 7 weeks old I sent off the forms for the SureStart grant.. after a month or so I hadn't heard anything so called them up and they said they had sent my form back as I hadn't filled it in correctly.. I told them I hadn't received anything back so the guy told me to fill it out again and re-send.. problem was that by the time they received it the second time, it would have been past the 3 month claiming limit. He told me aslong as it was date-stamped by the job centre before the 3 month limit was up that it would be fine. I did exactly as he told me, yet they have just sent me a letter saying I claimed on the 17th of March and as I should have claimed by the 14th I will not be entitled to it ! GRRRR! I am going to appeal it but they're not bloody open today so i'm in a right stonker lol xx

thats terrible!! yes u should defo appeal it! explain u sent it to them on time!! good luck hope u get it cos it comes in really handy

Blasted red tape!! That is soooo annoying!! You didn't get the guy's name when you rang did you? Phone again and speak to someone and get their name and when you appeal it you can quote them.

Have now just phoned them up and they are now saying actually you should have claimed by 8th March, not 14th, as the limit is actually 12 weeks after baby is born.. not 3 months.. WTF ! If a form said 3 months after birth of child, you would perceive this to mean when you child is 3 months old, would you not? Or is it just me I thought that as Laila was born on 14 Dec that 3 month limit would be up on 14th March im so mad! I've looked everywhere that says about the grant and it all says 3 months after birth, not 12 weeks :s
