sure start maternity grant UPDATE

its so confusin i was 29 weeks today and sent my form of last week because i no how long it takes for them to sort it still dont no wether i will get it

Thats like me...I'm not 29 weeks till tomorrow but I sent the forms last week so my forms are the old ones (they've updated them now to add the new questions) they aught to honour that... but what they aught to do and what they do do are two entirely different things, as we know!

I asked for mine to be sent to me yesterday so Im hoping they send an old form.

mine was that form too. theyll get mine tomorrow, it does say somewhere any form with due dates after 11th april with subsequent children will be rejected so i'm not holding out any hope

april the 11th is a shite date for me its my wedding anniversary of my which i am now divorced, and the baby i lost was due on that date too, these things come in 3's lol

Im wondering if it's worth asking my midwife to put me back by one day, I know it's cheeky but she might feel sorry for me lol.

I doubt she would.. but you know what they say... If you don't ask you don't get!

just do what i'm gonna do the week before we're due, bounce on that birth ball, drink rasberry tea, and pineapple all day, eat vindaloo. and shag like a porn star

 good plan... I will get this little girl out before the 11th!

my due date from my last period is the 9th but from scan is 12th wich can i go by..?

The one on the front of you notes is the official date... it's usually the 12 week scan date thats the most accurate.

The midwife will take it from the scan Katie hunny i am afraid, I wish i could believe that mws will lie for your girls if your deserving your deserving regardless of 1 or 2 days difference but a Midwife wont lie because its more than her jobs worth (i know they do random checks every now and again and so she could be caught out), I would suggest phoning tomorrow if you sent off last week because they will tell you your eligibility asap . Good luck xxx

Cut-off point

Sure start maternity grants are designed to assist with the burdensome costs of having a baby, such as the pushchair, cot, clothes and other equipment.

Applicants need to be on one of a number of benefits, including income support or income-based jobseeker's allowance.

Those on the higher rates of child tax credit, and some working tax credit claimants, can apply as well.

The restriction to one child applies from 11 April 2011, but a grant can be claimed from 11 weeks before the week in which a baby is due.

So the legislation is being brought into force on 24 January 2011.

ive just read that on the bbc website :S still confusing

Thats the bit that's confusing me, it's contradicting itself

So as long as you are 11 weeks before 11th April, but its being bought in on the 24th of Jan, it makes no sense?

i no because its saying it applies from the 11th but u can claim up to 11 weeks before :S

So, my due date is the 26th of april, what happens if she comes say 3 weeks early (which would be the 5th) could I claim it after she is born?

Totally gutted, doesnt seem fair that people are missing out on £690 for the sake of a couple of weeks :(

well girls i went and got a form today from jobcentre and took my DD in with me she handed me one and when i looked it doesnt say anything about new rules so gonna get it signed and sent.

i would say if we all apply anyway and then you can appeal against it when they refuse it i would say that 98% of people that appeal get it as they cant be bothered with the hassle.

Got my form signed by my MW today. Will send it off next week when i'm over 29 weeks and hope for the best I guess  My MW had no idea about the changes either when I asked her this morning. Very confusing :growlmad: Good luck girls!

I got my form through the post today and it says nothing about the new changes on the form so Im going to try anyway.
