Sweep vs Sex

Hey Ladies,

Just a heads up on something my midwife told me today when booking my sweep for next week.

Apparently sex is just as effective if not preferable over a sweep. If sex is not working or you, then its likely that a sweep wont either.

Think of it as a choice to bring on labour.....if you ready to go, then sex will bring it on and so will a sweep so it's up to you. If your not ready to go, neither sex or sweep will work, but remember we are all different so who knows. lol.

Just thought i'd share this info with you.

Considering what ive learnt today I may not have a sweep now after all. i'll see how desperate i am nearer the time though haha!!!!

I never had a sweep with my son but did have sex at 39weeks and labour started 40mins later! I do believe your body has to be ready for it tho! I think it just gives it alittle push! My oh is scared to dtd with me this time because it was so effective last time lol so I've still not managed to get my way on that one yet I'm 39weeks today but I don't mind waiting abit longer I remember how much labour hurts lol x

Someone told me the other day that you should treat sex a bit like the induction pessaries and do it several times in a day to soften the cervix. A bit like the pessaries going in every 6 hours.

Jesus my hubby won't come near me!! We have sex once a fortnight if I'm lucky. He's so freaked out by it all. Ill have to seduce him next week after my sweep ;p x

You might not feel like DTD after your sweep - its a bit painful/uncomfortable. That said, I think the combo of both is pretty great. We plan on DTD as much as possible starting Sunday (DD2's bday is Saturday). I have a sweep scheduled for 9/30... with any luck I'll either already have gone, or that will be the thing to put it over the top.

From my experience, DTD is much more fun than the sweep

god, i'm glad you said that lol!! i DTD after my sweep last week, and i actually could have cried!! Had my second one today, and it didn't hurt as much but last week, omg seriously, youchy!!!!!!!!!!
