I know this is a while off but since LO will be due in summer I was thinking of taking him swimming, either on my own or with OH as a way of having fun and cooling down and if I go with OH it could allow me time to train and get back in shape. I was a swimmer and miss it lol.

So when is the recommended age to take LO swimming for the first time? What age did you take your LO if you have taken them?

My friend starting taking her little one recently and baby is 5 or 6 months old now, i dont know when the soonest is but i think its when they can at least hold their head up, im not 100% on that though hun.. hope i helped xxx

Aidan's nearly 4 months & i've not taken him yet. Only because he's only really starting to notice things & splashing in the bath. He was real boring when he was first born so it would have been pretty boring taking him any earlier as he wouldn't have had a scooby what was going on x

you can take them when you feel like it really even from newborn, but check the pool rules cos some pools say only once the babys had their injections, im gonna take my baby as soon as ive recovered from my section they say start off just for 10 minutes or something especially with newborns :) xx

I've been going to a group since Jacob was about 3 or 4 months! You can go from whenever you feel ready :) it's probably easier when they can hold their head up though!

You do need to check the temperature of the pool though...cos even 'baby pools' can be too cold for babies!

i think its about 3 months hun, thats the age that places sell baby swim stuff from aswell.
i think they can only stay in for a little while though, because they get cold. im planning to take LO aswell when we go on holiday in oct :)

I used to work at a leisure centre and concil run places there is a minimum of 3 months at any centre but private centres might be different. xx

From what I hear 3 months. But even before LO is born you should consider going swimming- great exercise, relaxing and apparently it makes you feel weightless :) Gotta be a good thing in the later months, no?

I can't wait to take my LO swimming. i think it's nice and calming for the baby, and gets them used to water at a young age :) LO is due in August so probably wont go straight away, as will be too cold & swimming baths is quite a walk from here! will probably wait till after Janurary.
