switching from aptamil to cow and gate...advice needed asap?

so we started her on sma which the doctor told us to change to aptamil due to her having constipation and lots of trapped wind! but its gone from one extreme to another. she is now having lots of diorrhea with the aptamil and it is actually causing her distress when she is going. i went and got cow and gate there and want to switch. can i just change over straight away or leave her with the aptamil for the night or whats best to do? is is bad for her to keep changing she is 3 weeks and was on the sma for the first week and then apatiml and then this one now.could it cause her harm?

I would just change her over. Do it in the morning if you would prefer. aptimal and cow and gate are made at the same place by the same company. When we used them we found very little difference. So i wouldnt see any harm to change her over. just give it at least a week on the new one. Before you work out if it has worked or not. We had a similar problem although we went from aptimal (bad wind) to cow and gate (worse wind) and have not stopped on sma which is perfect for her . I hope it works. Its horrible not being able to help

Hey love SMA is known to cause a little constipation because it contains more iron than other brands. Fran has always been on it and was constipated at 2 days old - we gave her some cooled boiled water which helped to get things moving. Her poo continued to be quite hard for a few weeks while her tummy got used to processing it and gradually got softer and more normal.

I've seen a few threads where ladies have swapped from SMA to Aptamil and had the same problem as you are experiencing. You could either wait a couple of weeks and see if things settle down - it can take a while for LO's tummy to get used to the change - or you could just swap to cow and gate and see how that goes.

The nhs birth to five book says there is no reason why you can't swap brands because they all have to be nutritionally complete and there is no evidence that it does any harm or good xx

We swapped from aptamil to cow & gate. Just swapped straight over. People say there's not much diff between the 2 but there was for my LO although it took a good week to see the change. He had one awful day where we both cried lots he did some huge burps and a massive poo and things improved greatly (although I had used a little gripe water that day which was properly why lol) but C&G defo suits my LO more. Hope you find a solution soon.

I'd change straight over, my LO was on SMA and had awful wind and was really unsettled. I changed him to C&G and saw a difference that first day, just wish I'd switched sooner

thanks everyone. made up her bottles for tonight and made it with cow and gate. hopefully by the end of the week ill see a difference hope this one works better x
