.......... even if one person avoids this pain this post is worth it lol

I bf my twins for four weeks (expressed for Fynn in special care) basically long story short my supply and demand got all screwed up as I developed blocked ducts. I was put on anti biotics that were compatible with bf but it didnt shift. Then it got worse and was told that the medication I needed to be on was not compatible with bf - so I stopped. Too abruptly I dont know as HV told me not to express one gp said to express and another didnt AARRGGHHH.

Anyway fast forward two weeks and I am now off to hopital tomorrow to have two absesses drained - and believe me give me child birth for pain anyday!!!!

Hope this helps someone somewhere and if anyone has had an absess drained I would be interested in the process xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

i think bfeeding twins for 4 weeks is a job well done hun x

sorry it went all bad for you - hope you get on ok tomoro x

Oh my!!! 4 weeks is great though!! :D

I had a boil once on my thigh (ick I know) and had it drained... They lanced it, drained it and I had to have it packed daily for a week so the inside would heal before the outside. It didn't hurt too bad, more burned... Never had it with the breast though... good luck!!

:hugs: hope you feel better soon, that must be miserable

Vicky your story is exactly my own...

i bf abigail for 2 weeks, cracked nipple led to mastitis/infection in ducts...my supply & demand got all screwed as my breasts became so severely blocked that no milk was coming out (hence one VERY unhappy baby). So i was begged by midwives and bf support worker to keep stimulating, express and even get her on the breast if possible (though im sure you'l understand this was absolute AGONY) anyway, blood in my milk irritated abigails stomach- an even more unhappy baby. 3 midwives and the bf support worker had never seen a case so severe the milk stopped completely...

so i was also put on antibiotics and was told in 24 hrs it would start to clear...5 days of angonising pain later and still not even a tiny bit better. So put onto stronger antibiotics that would give abigail thrush and diarrhea- so after a heartbreaking 7 days of mastitis and feeding though severe pain i had my dream of bf snatched out my hands- abigail had to go to formula.

anyway my complete blockage was killing me and midwives were amazed i avoided abscesses...they'd never seen a case so bad.

So vicky, hun...i completely sympathize with you. The pain is such a horrible type of pain, i cried through every feed and every 5 mins before i knew she'd need to feed. Its excruciating and i agree when you say id take labour & birth any day. Its just horrible.

End of the day im positive it was my hand pump and expressing even though i was only getting drips that saved me from getting abscesses. So moral of the story is if you get mastitis...express/feed through it!!!

Major hugs for you, hope the draining isnt too bad...:hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

:hugs:

I hope tomorrow isn't too bad. I know slightly the pain, as I was also told not to express when I stopped pumping, so i didn't and ended up with mastitis xx

thanks all - I have resorted to sudocreme today haha as there is a bit of local anathetic in it apparently hehehehehehehehe

I am determined to get it sorted today if they try and fob me off with anti biotics I wont be held responsible. The option of syringing off the gunk every four days isnt really on either I mean how can oh get a day off every three or four days eekkkkk having babies to look after certainly makes things difficult to attend hospital eekkkkkkkk

well bit of an update - went to the appointment and the consultant was appalled that I had been left like that and told me I needed a general anaesthetic and open drainage of two large abcesses. It was so urgent they wanted me to be admitted there and then (EEKK) but there was no bed so I was allowed home and had to return the next morning (yesterday) I then had to get mum to drive three hours she had to get a week off work to help me after the op and oh had to wangle the rest of the week off after already having had five weeks off since the boys were born AARRGGHHH!!!

So basically now I am sitting here one day post op and feeling a lot better - I have to have the wound packed and redressed every day too so it heals from the inside out and todays change was 'cough cough' painful. Ohh the joys - but Fynn gave me the biggest smile when I came home from hospital yesterday which made it all worth while!!!!!

thanks for sharing your story Vicky :) hope you start feeling better soon :) xxx
