My engagement ring is stuck solid on my finger i have

  • Elevated my hand above my head
  • Put my hand in a bucket of ice cold water
  • Lubed it with oil, lotions, vaseline etc
  • Tied string and dental floss around my finger

Tried everything my finger is that swollen it wont move but its also got to the point where my ring is hurting me, it cost my OH £1400 but i think all thats left it to have it cut off at hospital :cry::cry:

He is devastated and so am i, if rings are cut off can they be fixed? Also is there anything else? I genuinely think not i done everything and unfortunately it aint going to happen

Im so freaking ANGRY at myself for not removing it sooner :growlmad::cry: :sad2:

You can have the ring repaired if it comes down to it, amount of time ive taken ladies from work to have rings cut off, they just have em fixed and put em back on again!

Dont try too hard to get the ring off, cause that can make it swell up more =[

have you tried anusol???????

i head somewere that helps, it reduces the swelling and allows the ring to slip off

also drink plenty of water

drink TONS of water, it will actually help flush out some of the water that's making your fingers swell. I mean, drink like it's your job! So much that you don't ever want to drink water again lol. Also I've heard potassium helps so maybe eat a banana. Hopefully soon your swelling will go down enough to remove that ring. I had to do something like this and I haven't put my rings back on yet, and probably won't until after LO is here.
Good luck hon!

I don't have any tips for getting it off but I'd have thought it could be repaired once cut. My engagement ring was the wrong size and had to be made bigger. I can only imagine that to do that they must have had to break it and melt it back again. Can't jewellers cut them off too? I'm sure my mom had a ring cut off at the jewellers anyway. If you want to be able to save it they might do a neater cut than the hospital x

I think the anusol is a good idea! They can definitely fix it though if you do have to have it cut off.

Hey honey, same thing happened to me. I actually made it more swollen by tugging but anyways, I got it off. Here's how...

Get some windex. I don't know if its called the same in the uk, but its the blue window cleaner. This works better than any of the other lotions or what have you..

Have your other half keep spraying your finger to keep it drenched.

Twist your ring up like if your were unscrewing a bottle cap. Don't tug straight up. Just keep twisting it up and if the windex dissolves, tell oh to spray more.

I got mine off after ten minutes... and getting it over the knuckle hurt soooo bad... and my finger was raw for days.

But that sucker came off and is locked in the safe now.
Good luck.

How long have you fingers been swollen? I took my rings off a couple of weeks ago when my fingers started to swell as I didn;t want to risk them getting stuck on.

If its the first time you fingers have swollen, drink loads of water, and then tommorow get your hands nice and cool and try some oil again to get it off. I wouldn't try again today as you are more likely to get your hands more hot and bothered and swollen.

Oh an its depends on the setting in the ring if thye can fix it. The way my diamonds are set they said they couldn't make it smaller (I wanted it one size smaller) because the way the stones were set.

i just got my wedding ring off in time this morning it would have really hurt to get it off now i was tugging for a while they are going on my necklace and staying there till this baby is out now

Keep it relaxed as you try to get it off too.... it helps. Lots of water... keep it elevated and Try again later... the Windex trick sounds interesting
I hope it works Hon!

I had similar thing and it got worse the more I pulled. Leave it tonight and try again in the morning as swelling tends to build up through the day. Drink plenty tonight and first think in the morning get a bag of peas on there for half and hour then calmly smother it in cream and use the slow screw technique and ease it off showly.

Good luck

P.s when u have the bag of peas on it it needs to be held higher than your heart, so up on the back of the sofa or somthing to let the fluid train away.

This was me with my engagement ring, wedding ring and 21st birthday ring from my grandparents who have recently passed away - I was devestated! Stay calm!

My 21st ring came off after lots of soaking in cold water and coating in olive oil! It took hubby ages but it came off eventually!

In the end I had a freezing cold (and I mean freezing cold!!!) shower (was goin to do a bath if this didn't work) - hubby reckoned it would take the blood to the organs and out of my fingers - and then my hubby spent 15 minutes pulling the wedding ring off my finger - we used masses and masses of soap to make it as slippery as possible. It was agony and i thought my finger would explode but we got there!

Hope it works out for you! xxx

Also midwife said to try first thing in the morning as things are less swollen! (Yes I was so panicked I rang the midwife!!!)

Aw this sounds awful unfortunately/fortunately, I don't have any rings :( but they would be stuck on by now, is swelling completely normal in hands and fingers?x

Drink water and try to get really cold, your fingers will shrink and you can probably use lotion to get it off. Seriously.. drink a couple liters of water and just shove your hand into ice water until it turns blue lol it'll work.

My uncle is a jeweler and had to cut a ring off me as a kid. I grew and there was no way it was coming off. He had a special tool to do it. Almost like a mini can openner. As long as the band is smooth, they can repair it and you would never know. If there is a pattern, it would be harder to fix, but not impossible for a good jeweler.

have you tried vaseline? Also don't worry about the ring being cut - the most expensive part of it is the diamond (or whatever stone you have) - it can easily be repairable and won't cost that much - jewellers do this all the time. xxxx
