I'd recommend a kindle fire, too. My son has an Innotab, and he much prefers to play on my kindle. He does play with the innotab, but complains that the games are slow. Which they are. The response time on the games is reeeaaaally slow, which is really frustrating for him because then he thinks he didn't do something correctly since its not responding. You don't get that with kindle games for kids, they respond pretty much right away. Also should point out that the games for the kids systems, like innotab and leap pad, etc, are expensive and not many available to choose from. Each game was around $25, and after having it for 2 years now, I have only found like 5 games for him that are age appropriate that he would actually want to play. Add that up. $125 for 5 games....That's nuts. You can get games free or for a few dollars on a kindle or ipad, which are just as good for learning. Also, most of those systems run on batteries, not a charger like a kindle or ipad. So there's that expense too. I bought rechargeable batteries for his, but again, there was more money put into it. In hindsight, it was a total waste of money for something I could have gotten much cheaper with a kindle, which would have been more satisfying for him overall.
