At first I wasnt convinced about it, i liked the idea of it but wasnt sure it was for me, my little sister gave me a sling she used for her baby and i tried it once. it was ugly and not comfy and i just felt baby was going to fall out. I also have a red kite carrier which ive used twice and quite like but find it takes a while to get it all hooked up and baby in etc

But i've seen how snuggly and cute your babies all look and think its worth another look.i really dont like the sling tho. Looking through the posts and i think i might fancy a mei tai but not sure if there is a big enough difference between that and the other carrier i already have to justify spending the money?

Also how do the straps work? do the shoulder straps cross over in front of you and tie at the front? Just not sure how they tie up if it needs to be behind you. And how does baby sit in does he need to be quite developed for it or can it be used from quite young too? LO is 9 weeks. Sorry if im being a bit dense.

I really never thought i would be what my mum terms a 'hippy' parent lol but with breastfeeding, cloth bumming, and amber wearing i figure i might as well give the rest a fair try, as i have ended up loving all the rest.

You'll love babywearing and your LO is at the right age to do it comfortably. When they're younger than that it can be very tricky and uncomfortable for first-timers, it was for me. But now that LO can hold his head up on his own and spread his legs at the hip it's nothing but FUN!!

There are some carrier reviews on a sticky on top. However, it is best to try some of them out and there are places you can do that but you'll have to find them in your area. A good place to start is at La Leche League, almost all the moms I've met there wear their babies and that's where I learned how to tie my wrap and asked questions about other interesting wraps I saw. You can talk to your LLL leader who will probably know of a babywearing club and events in your area. You might also find information about a club at your local breastfeeding store.

There are so many carriers that you really have to find what works best for you. Most of us have more than one carrier for different needs. I love my moby, of all the wraps it has the easiest learning curve because it's stretchy, but it's not good for older babies and back carrying. I also have an ergo which my husband loves to use because it's not fussy and you just strap it on. And I just got a sling which is great for around the house and very quick trips to the store etc.

Thanks for the reply. I am definitly sold, i took LO one for a walk today in the carrier i have today, and he was so smiley and chatty the whole time. Hes never like that in the buggy he just goes to sleep in it.

I have seen a very cheap babyhawk mai tei on ebay i might get as a starting point but will definitly look into some of the ideas you have given me.

thanks so much

Do you know of any sling meets/babywearing groups nearby? It's probably worth it to go and try out a few

There are lots of different types of carriers, and even carriers in the same family can be very different feeling. I love the Kozy carrier which is a Mei Tai. The straps are padded at the shoulders for comfort and then the straps do cross over. It works just like a buckle carrier, but it ties instead. There are also some awesome buckle carriers (known as Soft Structured Carriers). Boba, Ergo, Patapum, Angelpack, Action Baby Carrier. Those ones are super comfy and easy to put on after a few tries. There are also wraps. I'm a woven wrap lover and I can do a wrap as quick as anything else. But all carriers take time and practice.
