Hi lovely ladies :flower:

When did you LO's start talking, saying actual words with meaning?

Joe says dada, nana and lots of other words but without any actual meaning.

Is this normal?

Yes. Ruby started talking at 14 months but it's perfectly normal for them only to have a handful of words at 18 months. Also boys do seem to talk later than girls from what I understand.

Thanks hun. He's always chatting away, but there is no meaning or relevance to any of it!!

my 13mth old can say a few words but with no real meaning apart from nana (bannana ) and woof for dogs, I know she can say mumma and know it is me but she hardly ever does...
oh and she says yes

Riya only says a couple of words but she's exposed to 3 languages daily so may have a little delay in speech, understands so much more however

She can say

Mama
Mum
Dada
Papa
Lecker (germany for delicious, when she eating yogurt or something else she loves)
Moo (when you ask her what sounds cows makes)
Woof (for dog)
Hisss (for snake)
Roar (for tiger)

DH and her always reading her zoo animals book hence the animal sounds !. Bless her.

Harley barely spoke till about 20 months, then suddenly she started saying a ton of things

Quite a few of my daycare kids werent saying words til almost age 2. THen they all came all at once - they would learn more than a word a day - and were putting words together almost right away. You still have plenty of time!

Megan is an early talker - and it still shocks me daily that she says words with meaning.

Omar is an early talker. He started at 8 months to say words meaning them, he learns new words everyday. But he's a late walker until now he only manages few steps before loosing interest.

I've heard that babies seem to be either a walker or a talker. It seems to be true for the babies I know! Alice walked at 11 months, but only says a handful of words and animal noises. She signs more than she speaks, but she gets her point across! Nothing to worry about, it just happens at different times.

Earl is definitely a walker. Since he was about 5 months all he's wanted to do is get about. His commuincation is good but it's quite subtle and only hubby and I seem to understand him fully.

However, he was crawling at 7.5 months and walking by 11 months. He was 100% walking by 1 year.

Talking wise, he's not quite 13 months and has about 4 words he says well, and a few others that crop up every so often.

He can definitely say:

Hiya
Daddy
Dog
Duck
'Gone'

He occasionally says:

Yes
Mumma
Oh No
"That" while pointing
Ouch

We have taken to repeating words to him, getting him to copy and if he gets it vaguely right we make a fuss. It seems to be working as up until last week Dog and Duck were both a little shaky lol. "Gone' was a shocker as he just did it one day with a little action (shrugs his shoulders)

I'm not worried about Earl's language as long as it's clear that he's understanding and he's being exposed to a good variety of words each day, he'll soon pick it up (and then he'll probably not shut up! lol)

Holly is a big talker, she is very advanced verbally - although she was just turned 13 months when she walked.

I think they just all get there at different stages - and as hard as it is, don't compare your LO to others. I worried because Holly was very late to roll, and only crawled backwards for a long time, but they all get there in the end x

mylo is 16 months and not saying anything with meaning. just all babbling.. dadadadadadadadadadadadadada all day long! nothing else appart from the occasionall gee gee gee gee gee gee .. lol

cant wait til he strats talking he'll be even cuter!
