Hi ladies

Just a quick question.... (it might be a stupid one)!!

I'm planning on buying a boots maternity TENS machine today, but does anyone know if its safe to use for back pain before labour??

Im 37 weeks today :happydance: but have had awful back pain in the evenings, i can not get comfy sitting or standing! I was in a car accident a few years ago so I do get a bad back and sciatica from time to time.

I had hoped it was signs of labour but sadly not!

Thanks :flower:

tbh i dont know! It may say on the leaflet? X

Thank u.... yeah i was thinking of sneaking into boots and pulling the box apart to find out lol!!

I don't think it is....I was testing mine the other day had it all strapped to my back ready to go, then I read in the FAQs section "Is it safe to use before labour" and the answer was "After 37 weeks you can test the machine on your forearm" so I took that as a no for your back???? I could be wrong though, see what your leaflet says. Hope your back feels better soon :flower:

I've also heard not to use them until you are actually in labour.

i thought u couldnt but im off work with really bad back pain and my doc said its fine to use! x

I'm only 27 weeks, but have had really bad back pain for weeks now. I asked my midwife at 24 weeks if i could use one and she said its not safe to use before 37 weeks as it can occasionally induce labour, but after 37 weeks its fine.

I think the midwife at my antenatal class last week said it was fine to test after 37 weeks, but I'm afraid I wasn't listening too carefully cos I'm not planning to use one. I've heard the manufacturers don't like to say because they aren't really allowed to carry out tests with them on pregnant ladies.

what about early in pregnancy? we're trying to conceive but i go to a chiropractor and they use similar machines? guess i will have to say no thanks just in case.
