Hi

Have any of you had a failed HSG? If so what was your next move?
Did you have success? My doc couldn't get the catheter in the correct place
They didn't really explain much & now I'm worrying & I can't speak to anybody until my follow up appt in late May

Thanks for any replies

I didn't have a failed HSG, I'm so sorry. How long until your next appt?

Mine wasn't failed but they had trouble inserting the catheter threw my cervix. They eventually got it and my left tube was hydrosalpinx but now they make sure they use the smallest catheter that they have for my iuis otherwise it's just hell.

Are they going to try again?

Since it was an issue with the dr getting it in they will probably reschedule as the next step.
i know my dr had an issue because he used the wrong catheter and ended up putting it in with a knob on the end, then removing it and doing it again. It was crazy painful.

My first one failed in February. The original doctor was just a radiologist. He couldn't get the catheter through the cervix. He dialated it and it still wouldn't work. He said it's only happened about 5 times in 10 years but he didn't want to proceed without an OB present.

They rescheduled me for March with my OB to do the procedure instead and gave me medicine ahead of time to soften the cervix.

I will tell you the successful procedure was horrible for me because she basically forced it in. There was extreme pain and then I passed out. Luckily it didn't last too long. I'm not trying to scare you but since they already had issues I might ask more questions of other ways the test can be done. I almost wish I would have looked into options where they could have sedated me more to make the procedure easier.

I also found out from my RE afterwards that there is another type of catheter (not a balloon type) they could have used and it would have been best for me to go to him directly to get the test. So if you can go to a specialist that is wise. He said it was just likely the position of the cervix causing issues.

After all this I had a blocked tube (my other one is gone from an ectopic) but that didn't really have any impact on them having trouble with the test.

I was so worried when the test failed and it can be a sign that's somethings wrong. But it could also just be the position of your cervix that's not cooperating and sperm can get through fine while a catheter is much larger.
