I just thought of this and wondered if anyone had planned on buying things to remember the day? For my 18th my brothers gave me a copy of the Daily Mail and the Number One single CD from the day I was born. A brilliant gift that I still love, but as they bought it from a specialist website (just before my 18th) it cost them a fortune.

So I thought we could buy a few of these things ourself to keep and this could be a food time for us all to collate a list of ideas :)

Local Newspaper
Local Property Paper (to compare prices)
A selection of National Newspapers
Number One CD single (You can still buy these right?)
Number One Album
A note of petrol price (as it seems to keep sky rocketing it would be interesting to see if this continues)
A note of a pint of milk (random but it’s a nice track of inflation!)

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I would have never thought of that; that's brilliant!
I'm definitely going to do that!
I think I'll add current pictures of family members and pets and maybe trending articles like the twinkie demise and GMO labeling.

Was planning to get the times on the day LO was born, my dad did it for me and my sister, but what if LO is born at 11:30pm?! That would be just my luck!

Aww thats a lovely idea! I think im going to do that too ill have a think of things to put in as well as some of your ideas. :)

Maybe youll have to buy a paper everyday for the last week until the day you give birth or get you OH to on his lunch break or something! :)

Could you ask a family member to buy the daily things when you go into Labour? Obviously there’s no guarantee baby will be born that day but you can always send OH out the next day if baby comes early hours :)

Me and DH saw a book called 'Hello Baby' and thought it was cute so we bought it! And in there it has a little envelope for newspaper clippings from the day the baby was born, and also space for info like - the number one single, the name of the prime minister, the cost of a pint of milk, and probably some more that I can't remember! So when I go into labour I'll send DH off to buy a newspaper and make a note of the price of milk!:haha: They must sell newspapers in the hospital somewhere I guess:) I expect he'll buy the Sun so he has something to look at (note that I didn't say 'read'!!):haha: So I'll have to stop him taking some clippings from Page 3!!!

Love this idea!!!

i wonder if CD's will still be in use once bubs is 18yrs old?

Ive kept a receipt of babys first baby grow i brought him.. just though its cute to add to the box (also has thr prices of the shopping i brought so he can look back in 20 years and say... (WOW that was cheap back then LOL) xx

I have a letter from the white house congratulating the birth of each of my children. Thought it was neat because then it shows who the president was when they were born. I plan on doing it for this baby too. I also write in their book common prices of things (gas, milk, a movie ticket, shows on TV) and take a clipping of the birth announcement in the news paper.

I love this idea - will defo be doing some of these for my LO.

You could get a book of stamps and collect some coins :)

I'm doing something similar for our LO but have done it for the whole year since we had the olympics, queen's jubilee etc.

I think it's nice to collect a bit of history :) especially to give them on thier 18th Birthday or something. Xx

The coins is a good idea, another present I got for my 18th.

Does anyone know if you can get like a book of stamps that has all the current ones? Lol

Could you get a pack of the Christmas ones? That might be a good idea :) xx

We're also doing this and are including the following:

Number 1 DVD
Number 1 selling book
The times
Hello magazine
Local newspaper
Estate agent brochure
Photo of baby, us & grandparents on the day he/she is born

You could put in a receipt with bread, milk, etc?

I do this for my younger cousins' 18th birthday presents (from the day they were born) so I'm excited to do it now for my baby and for them to be able to see it before they're 18! (Much cheaper this way too! Hahaha!)

Yes! We do the newspaper too! That is my moms job to stop at the local store and pick up that day!
We also take a picture of our house (the outside) and what it looked like (trees and all) on the day all our babies were born.
