The importance Of Reduced Fetal Movements And Movement Guidelines

My Leo wasn't moving like he should. I tried drinking cold water, had a few sips of coffee, poked at him, then I tried laying on my side. His little lump of a body curled up on the side I was laying on so I changed sides (which usually makes him mad enough to dig his feet in and turn around a few times until he gets comfy) but all that happened was gravity slowly moved the whole lump of him to the other side. Scared the crap out of me! After an hour and a half I called the hospital and they told me to come straight up to labor and delivery. As soon as I got hooked up to the fetal moniter my Lil brat started moving like crazy and didn't stop until we left. They monitored me and him both for 45 minutes and said he was perfectly healthy...when I went in they were worried about my heart rate since it was sky high but after I found he was ok it returned to normal.

They told me that even though he was fine, my stress level would have effected him had I not come in and found out for myself he was ok (apparently my blood pressure was REALLY high) they told me even though he's normal, not to hesitate to come back in if I think anything is wrong because healthy momma = healthy baby. They also said if something had been wrong he could get sick fast so they would rather me come in and nothing be wrong, than me stay home not wanting to be "that mom" and something be wrong.

Just wanted to share my story! Mine might have come out perfect but I feel a lot more relaxed now at home with my healthy bump than I would have been had I not gone in.

I have the worst case (for me!) of pregnancy insomnia. It's caused by lots of things but always results in me being up for hours in the wee morning. Today it's the possibility of cholestasis! GAHHH!

Yesterday I started itching. Insane itching that left huge red patches all over my body. I was convinced it was dry skin so I moisturized, duh. Yesterday while dh and I were driving home I got itchy on my feet. The bottoms, the annoying place that you can scratch but it never really feels better. So I peeled off my boots right there to scratch scratch scratch. Then before bed my palms AND feet are itching, horrid, lasts half an hour? Now at two am I get woken up by the most intense hand/foot itch of my life. And now I'm awake all alone so start to research.

Pretty sure this must be cholestasis. I was out for a 4D yesterday and baby was healthy and a whopping 3 lbs 11 oz. Now I'm almost certain she will be pre-term, as my son was naturally preterm and she will most likely be induced.

I am sitting on pins and needles til I can call in the morning. Just glad the itching started today and not during a weekend when no one is there.

Kind of a rant. Anyone else have/had it? What was your experience?

My gallbladder was removed a few years ago after DS was born. Good thing it wasn't called cholecystasis LOL or I might not have clicked the link.

OMG apologies ladies. Note to self-- do not post in the throes of insomnia.

Went in two nights ago for reduced movement and they had to give me quite a lot of orange juice an have me on the monitors for about an hour before she decided to move at all. Also found I was contracting 2 minutes apart and in preterm labor. So glad I went on because I want feeling the contractions at first. She started moving around pretty good after an hour or so and they said because I am sick she is probably just taking it easy too. I didn't so a kick count but she has a routine that she has every day and she moves a lot at certain times of the day so I knew when she hasn't been moving like she should something might be wrong.

Ok, so, I am trying not to panic... but when do babies start to slow down and get cramped in there? I'm 35 weeks today and have noticed that the last 2-3 days she isn't moving as much, mostly just squirming and wiggling, a "digging" feeling sometimes, or a minor shift every now and then, but not like she was a week ago. I also felt terrible yesterday and the day before - overwhelming lack of sleep but also major aches and pains - but today feel OK. She has squirmed and wiggled a bit but mostly sleeping still... in any case, just not too much kicking and moving around like before. Of course she perks up more if I'm eating (especially chocolate or something sweet) or have something cold to drink, but I'm not waking up at 3AM anymore to her kicks - just to go pee and because she's still sitting high in my rib cage.

So... I guess my question is - does this seem normal to you guys? Like maybe when my tummy felt stretched and hurting the last few days that was a growth spurt? In the past she has also been mostly sleeping those days, but I felt like they were shorter time spans (like 1 day of calm/sleeping and 2-3 days of VERY active movement). My midwife told me last week at my appointment that if she's even moving at all that should be "good enough" but it seems like misinformation to me... I mean if she's normally moving and kicking and now is just squirming or shifting a little at a time it feels like SO much less than before...

Anyways I'm just rambling and need reassurance.... what do you guys think?

If it is a change in her regular routine and you are feeling nervous with your mother's instincts I would go and get her checked at L&D just to be safe. Not trying to worry you but always be safe and follow your instincts! Let us know how things go!

A good tip for later in your pregnancy... babies movements/kicks continue to increase until they get to a point where they haven't got much room and then it stays at that level. It should never decrease x

My daughter was born 7 weeks early, emergency c-section, 10 minutes after entering the hospital... So fast and very scary. The scariest part was I had no symptoms.. I literally just felt like I needed to be seen.. No pain, no bleeding. I had a full placental abruption. If I didn't listen to instincts telling me something was wrong, we both wouldn't be here. I am now 37 weeks with my second child and have gone into the emergency room soooo many times just because I'm nervous and scared of it happening again. Please don't ever feel like there is a dumb or bad reason to get checked if you feel any reason too.. Better safe than sorry. I'm glad to hear of another success story from such a scary, sometimes unpredictable complication in pregnancy.

I'm 38 weeks 3 days and baby's movements have slowed down a lot of recent. She used to be so active but lately it's like she is a sleep most of the time. Every now and again I'll feel a limb stuck out but I'm talking twice a day. Or I might just see her bottom move very slowly from left to centres. Again it's only a few times a day now. Is this normal at this stage do you think?? I remember doing kick counts when I was 30 weeks along and got well over a hundred movements an hour! Not every hour but most.

Go and get some reassurance for your healthcare professional. Movements shouldnt slow down, become different (more rolls than big kicks) yes.

Oh I thought babys sleep 16 hours a day? They do when they are born right? A little confusing especially since she never seemed to sleep at 30 weeks gest- was always awake for hours upon hours! Maybe her sleep pattern had changed and she is now awake when I sleep. I'll give midwife a call for done piece of mind.
