Can I use a regular pillow as an extra mattressy layer? All baby mattresses seem as thin to me. Would there be anything wrong with putting my pillow in there instead, does that sound okay?

No that would not be at all safe, a pillow is a suffocation hazard for a baby. The only thing to do is to look in the baby shops for a more deluxe mattress. But a baby doesn't need one as thick as an adult remember. definitely not a pillow though.

They are thin as a baby is so light they dont need anything much! As said above a pillow would be dangerous, but would also probably hurt babies back. It wouldnt be comfortable for us sleeping on a mattress as squishy as a pillow. The ones that come with the moses baskets are good enough :)

The moses basket has also come with an extra thing that's about a third of the size of the mattress. Where/how am I supposed to position that? At top, middle, bottom, near top under baby's shoulders and head, or where?

It's pretty thin, not bulky or thick, so I don't even know why it's there or will make a difference, but I want to use it if it's been included.

Does it say in the booklet/packaging. Mine didnt come with anything like that
x

Just been to have another look, and I reckon it is a cover! It's two thirds, not one third, and got a quilty feel to it. I'm now 100% certain of what it is..

..but how do you use this cover? Just literally put it over them, or tuck in the sides after it's been placed?

You just put it on the top (I know the one I had with ds1 didnt have enough fabric to tuck it in) or you can use a different blanket if you dont feel comfortable using it hun xx

Just did a google search to try and find a picture for you. If you scroll down there is a picture of a baby in a moses basket that may help :) :

Like another person said on here, anything thicker than the mattress in the moses basket, is a suffocation hazard. A risk of SIDS etc.
Newborns don't have the neck muscles to be able to turn over if they happen to be face down in a pillow...very dangerous.
Not trying to scare you...but other than my son being swaddled in his blanket and put in his bassinet, there were no toys ...nothing in with him at all. Better to be safe.

I ordered an thicker mattress from Kiddiecare for £15. I needed to buy one anyway so shopped around, Im pleased with it. :)
