Hey ladies!
I popped over here for a wee look and thought I would drop you a wee line with some things I have discovered since having our first baby 5 weeks ago!
Please feel free to ask me anything I don't cover and if I know I will gladly help- no question is TMI!!
Labour and birth
I was induced And my waters were broken due to pre-eclampsia.
My experience- my baby was back to back so trapped a lot of water behind her. So it felt like I was peeing myself over and over! This was more uncomfortable than the contractions lol
if they offer you gas and air for internals, checks or breaking waters take it! If they don't- ask for it! My internals at the end of pregnancy hurt quite a bit but gas and air really helps.
Not only did I poo during labour but I also farted, grunted and pooed again. I was freaked out but my midwife wAs so pleased that I pooed she was raving cos it meant I was having reAlly productive pushes!
If you want an epidural ask as early as you become uncomfortable. Due to the induction and babys position my contractions came on hard straight away. Only had about ten seconds between them and dilated to 7 cm in less than an hour. I asked for my epidural after 2 hours of back labour. Was told anaesthetist would be 1 hour but she had to go to theatre so it took another 2.5. So I did most of labour on gas and air only which helped but was not what I wanted
epidural are amazing. Didn't hurt to get it in. Worked straight away. I could still move my legs enough In bed to not feel paralysed but the pain stopped within 15 mins. Know it is not everyone's experience but I loved mine!!
Ended up with section after a long time pushing feel free to ask if that interests you lol
new baby
are they clean bummed? Are they full tummed? Have they burped enough?
9 times out of ten in the first two weeks these questions helped to figure out baby crying. And don't forget to go back and try again! Hubby and I kept forgetting that just cos we checked nappy first doesn't mean it isn't nappy an hour later lol
hospital teaches you how to feed, burp, change and bath baby. So if you are sitting worried cos you don't know these things ( like I was in 3rd tri) don't worry!
Shopping list:
these are the things I couldn't have done without in first month (aside from the obvious pram/ carseat etc)
v shaped pillow for feeding on
a million bibs
my fisherprice jungle swing with vibrate (i swear this thing is like Magic for a grizzly baby)
soft babygros (only put outfit on lo if going out somewhere to visit otherwise jammies all the way for comfort)
huggies pure wipes- used them from start instead of faffing with cotton wool and bubs bum is perfectly fine
anyway this has turned into a massive post- hope it has been useful to someone
I loved my labour, had a speedy csection recovery and love being a mum
I wish you all a positive experience for the end of pregnancy and beyond!!
Xx
