...about how to help your baby be in the right position to prevent back to back and breech.

Well, I'm not really due to be in here for another two weeks or so, but I think I'm going to start waffling between 2nd and 3rd tri's.
I started my antenatal classes last night (I have six 2 hour sessions over the next 6 weeks) and while most of the stuff was things I already knew there was some interesting information I hadn't seen much covered on BnB so thought I would share.
We had a discussion on the best position for baby to be in for birth and what we can do as mums to help encourage baby to be in that position so we can avoid breech and back to back positions.

The best position for baby to be in is facing slightly to the side (with head down!). The ways to encourage this are to have your stomach muscles act like a hammock for the baby. Positions that encourage this include standing, and walking, but also include sitting backwards on a chair (like a straight back chair), or even sitting leaning forward. You can also do prenatal yoga positions including being on hands and knees or even leaning forward over a chair or tabletop. Basically you want the baby's back to be cradled by the curve of your bump.
Positions to avoid include leaning far back while seated. I do this CONSTANTLY, so I need to train myself out of it!

The instructor told us this becomes more important past 36 weeks (which is why I'm putting it in 3rd tri) but that we can start forming good habits now.

I just thought it was interesting as I had no idea there was anything we could do to encourage good positioning.:dohh:

This is great information, thanks for sharing! I had no idea we could do something to encourage getting baby into a better position.

Also, this is why a birthing ball can be useful. :)

I sat in a regular chair at work and came home and relaxed back in a recliner every evening. I suppose it could have been the ice skating that got my boy in the right position because I didn't make any attempt to position him, but he knew which way to be facing. Never hurts to practice good posture though.

Good post I didn't know we could help position the baby either.

Also i've been told that deep squatting can help the baby to get I to the head Down position and help baby engage too
xx
