Think we've chosen our names- would love your thoughts!

Hi everyone

Well, I think we have picked our name choices (not sure if its too early or not :-/ might end up changing our minds yet.)

I'm hoping for a little girl (finding out on the 5th) and love the name Aoife Harlow Van Deventer. For a boy we like Leo but can't seem to think of a middle name that goes or if it should be Leonardo and then just shortened.

Would love your thoughts xx

(P.s Van Deventer is surname!)

I like the name Leo and it will be on my list of choices when I get as far as to thinking names! I can't give opinion on the girls name because I don't know how to pronounce it (but don't take that badly...I've been in Spain too many years and don't know it!)...but it looks interesting! x

I like aoife, but I only know how to pronounce it because I know someone with that name. Be aware that you may get lots of mispronounciations.

I like Leo, but not so keen on leonado.

I would pair Leo with a longer middle name. I'm thinking one with 2 or 3 syllables, but I'm blanking on any specific suggestions. And I like Leo a lot better than Leonardo, personally.

I love the girls name you have picked out! It's such an old name too (as in it's been around for centuries! I'm big into genealogy and variations of that name were some of the first queens of England's names.

Leo is a fun name too. Personally, I don't care for Leonardo, but that's just me. I've known a few Leo's and they were all great guys!

There is more than one pronunciation, but the most common is:

Ee-Fa

I've always wondered how it's pronounced as the first place I heard it was the girl from the saturdays named her baba with this name. I always read it as "ay-oif" but knew that wasn't right! "Ee-fa" is lovely, but agree that there'll be confusion with its pronunciation . xxx

I think your right that Leo is the way to go rather than Leonardo, it would always be shortened anyway and I get to think of a nice middle name to go with it.

Lovely to know there's some royalty in Aoife, I'm guilty of copying it from The Saturdays hehe but it kept growing on me and now I love it!

Oooh yes and thanks for helping with pronunciation: ee-fah or aa-fah. OH is keen for a dutch middle name so we're trying to find ideas if anybody has any suggestions xxx

If they're names you like, go with it. Aoife sounds lovely now I know how it's pronounced. And definitely Leo over Leonardo. And hey, you don't have to give them a middle name. Not everyone as one.
