How do you plan/do you already spend your days? I'm planning on having a year off on maternity before starting fostering, instead of going back to work, so will effectively be a stay at home mum. Just wondering if you all have routines that you work to or just wing it? And what about loneliness/adult interaction? Am I going to go crazy here?! Just curious!

I met friends through my post natel group so we still meet up 1 day a week (at least) - then I go to (which some of my friends also attend) various baby/toddler groups throughout the week.

I do have a routine, as my 2 yr old still has a 2 hour day time nap so we work around that. My days are full and busy and I do get adult interaction too and it's important for Lily to have interaction with her little friends too.

Search for the various baby/toddler groups in your area.

Hi, I won't be a full time stay at home mum as we need my income,I work as a A+E nurse and will be going back 3 shifts a week or 2 night shifts. This worked well after our first as I worked mostly weekends so did not need child care and meant I was home all week with him. After this baby I plan to do the same, our oldest is in nursery 9-12 so I will have 1-2-1 with baby everyday. In an ideal world I would just work 2 shifts a week, but I really love my job and was looking forward to returning after mat leave last time and am already missing the challenge now. However, once baby gets here that feeling will go until I hit the 9 months mark. I feel very lucky that I have the oppertunity to go back part time, it must be very difficult for other mums who have to work full time. x

Im a full time stay at home mum, i have a 3 year old and hes just started nursery every afternoon so feeling a bit lost in the afternoons at the mo lol, but will fill that with apts, shopping and one on one when bubs arrives. My big tip would be to make sure you have some other "mum" friends with little ones around the same age that you can see at least 2-3 times a week, its great stimulation for ur lo and great for their social skills and great for ur sanity too  Defo look at ur local mum and baby groups  I dont get bored as have plenty to do as have all the house work to do too and see lots of friends and family, when ds was young we worked to a stict routine but i found this just doesnt work, we was better off having a couple of things that we stick to everyday (lunchtimes and nap times) then would just go with the flo for the rest!

I'm a newbie to this staying at home mum lark :dishes: and have found I've needed to write out a checklist of what needs doing around the house on a daily basis and what I need to do before baby is here. I then work in my little breaks around this :coffee: The checklist lets me see what I have done and what still needs doing, pre-checklist I was all over the show and even forgot to take the washing off the line one night! I remembered at like 4 am and was out in the dark taking it all down :hangwashing: I must have looked a right nutter lol!

Thus far I don't know any other mums (other than my own obv!) but I'm hoping to do a couple of parent/toddler groups per week when LO is here. I've taken up knitting to keep me occupied when either all the work is done or when I'm done and can't do anything else.

It would be interesting to see how all the pros manage  xx

My aunt had her first baby last December and still hasn't managed to find time to sit down or do housework, let alone get bored. I think babies can be a lot of hard work.

I do plan to do a lot of exercise.

I am very very lucky as OH will be at home with me, he got made redundant so we are going to make the most of it.

I have been a stay at home since I had my girls in 2007. I really like it. I spend my days playing with them, feeding them, taking them to play groups, and cleaning the house. I also go to the gym and they come with me.
