How long did it take you to conceive while breastfeeding or how long have you been trying to conceive while breastfeeding?

I didn't get a period in between, so watch out! I think Emma was about 5 months when I conceived, although I'm not sure on dates yet. We hadn't been trying, but are so excited!

i was coming here to ask a similar question... i am trying to decide whether to take the mini-pill while breastfeeding or not. i just read that bf'ing is 98% effective as contraception... should i trust that?

I was exclusively breastfeeding when I fell pregnant (Emma didn't start solids until 6 months), so if you definitely don't want another baby- definitely don't use breastfeeding as contraception!

Bf only works as contraception if you feed every 2-3 hours round the clock, give no other foods or drinks, don't give a dummy, and your lo is younger than six months. Still I know ladies who followed the above to the letter and still got pregnant, maybe they were the other 2% but still, I wouldn't risk it.

With two of mine I got pregnant within a few months of my period returning, and my period returned a couple of months after baby became established on solids.

I am actually trying to conceive and just wondered how likely it would be to happen while Daisy still is breastfed.

i didn't get any periods after having DS and caught with DD when he was 6 months old, we weren't trying but we were happy about it! he had just started having some solids and was still bfed x

bfeeding is absolutely NOT a reliable form of contraception! x

It took me about 6 weeks to get PG while breastfeeding but my son was 18 months old when I started to TTC so it might be a little bit slower with a younger baby. Have your periods returned yet? If they have then you have a good chance (It took mine about 13 months to return).

I got my period back when Pops was 8 months old and it took us 5 months of trying till we conceived. I breastfed till Poppy was almost 17 months.

We have been TTC since April of last year, but AF didn't show until Bun was almost a year old. So I count us as really TTC only for 4 cycles.
Nothing for us yet though. :(

But I don't think quitting BF would make a difference now since I have AF again and I OV - and that's all you need!!!
I think if you are OV, then it's just a matter of time!! xxx

My periods returned after 8 weeks and I feed her two to three times a day and also express a feed for her. My cycles seem normal and I think I ovulate but havent used OPKs so can't be totally sure. This is only our second cycle of trying so time will tell!

Sending us lots of :dust: Sun :).

My cycle came back at 18 months. We started TTC when Brennan turned two, and it took 8 cycles.

We've been trying since Alice turned 1, but I've not had a period, so I'm not holding out too much hope. She's 17 months old now.
