so my 1st trimester was fine, 2nd even better, now i'm in to the 3rd and the problems begin. any advice on the following would be good:

1. Heartburn, steadily worse over the past week, been on the gavisgon chews which do seem to work for a little while, are they the best option or is the liquid better? what about the new strawberry one?

2. Legs aching. they are generally ok during the day, but as soon as i lie down my hips, knees and ankles ache as well as my back and shoulders. bath doesn't seem to do much. i was thinking of taking paracetamol before bed, but don't want top do this for the next 11 weeks.

3. sleep in general, mainly because of the above but also just waking up for no reason very hour or so.

how you all doing, any advice? i've got 5 1/1 weeks left at work and i'm struggling :nope:

For heartburn I go for the gaviscon chews, not tried the strawberry but i go for the cool as they seem to last longer for me. I also find that when I've got hearburn eating melon helps. Weird I know but seems to work.

Will my aching hips and back I have a massive pillow that I sleep with between my legs, it helps a bit overnight but so far I've not found anything that heps in the day. Sorry :-(

As for sleeping, I've no idea!

Ive been getting ache in my hips cause I'm 17 stone and my body has kicked into dead sleep (dont move an inch) so every couple hours I have to wake up and turn over to the other side.... But if you use pillows or blankets under where the ache is starting it may pad it out a bit, also prop yourself up whenever you lay.... it helps with the ache and with heartburn. I was using about 6 pilows and a V-shaped pillow.

Liquid relief works better I think, but i go through patterns sometimes i get heartburn bad and sipping out of the bottle, other times i go days without looking at it. Last week i was carrying gaviscon everywhere in my bag, this week just gone its stayed on my bedside table and only been opened twice at like 3am when i wake up with pain....

The sleep thing, all i can say to that is that when youre tired your body will sleep, try listening to calm music at night, or just sleep whenever you can, I know how hard it is when you have to work but just dont be afraid to go to sleep as soon as you get home if you're gonna be up all night x

Afternoon naps are the only way I've managed my exhaustion since my maternity leave. Even when I was working, I'd get back and snooze for an hour before dinner! I have no idea how Mums with more than one cope...

Hi,

I just noticed you had really achy legs, I had this also and it was due to all the extra blood circulating around my system and pooling in my legs, it made them ache like crazy! I ended up fainting due to low blood pressure as it was collecting in my legs... who knew that could happen?!

Anyway, just wanted to say, try and put your feet up as much as possible and drink LOTS of water, it helps to drain fluid, my GP also said that if I start to feel faint, I have to lay on the floor with my legs raised - I just thought I would add this if you start to feel dizzy/faint etc as achey legs was how I started and nothing helped until I started putting them up more and drinking water.

I hope I haven't worried you, I just thought I might be able to help...

i'm struggling with 3rd tri and i've got ages left yet. heartburn i've been suffering from that too. i havent even used gaviscon coz hubbi bought the aniseed stuff and i cant stand it so i'm gonna get another one and try that. in the meantime i found milk helps a bit.

my back has been in agnony the past couple of weeks. sitting at my desk all day is sooo painful. i cant wait to go on mat leave now. also the sleeping i'm suffering with that too. i could do with a nap during the day. i struggle to get comfy at night but a pillow between my legs helps. i find myself waking up at all hours though and it really is a pain. x

Welcome hun xxx

Milk always eases my heartburn. For the pains just rest as much as possible, paracetamol and warm baths :hugs: xx

I've been drinking milk for my heartburn too.....been having that to drink whenever I eat and I seem to be getting alot less bother from it now. As for back pain, i bought one of those wheat microwavable heat sacks, i've found it helps alot if you have to sit in the same position all day (if you have a microwave at work anyway) x

Yep I would agree with what the other ladies have said. I have a bit if heartburn and milk is suppose to help - although I have not noticed a massive difference using it.
Also I get restless legs syndrome where I feel I have to move them especially at night. It can be really annoying as you just want to relax in the evening and feel that you can't. Also been getting a lot more backache usually in one specific spot. I use a hot water bottle to ease that.
As for the no sleeping......grrrrr very annoying isn't it, probably preparing us all for motherhood. Like someone else said try using pillows if you have discomfort when you lie down. I find the TV helps me fall to sleep - but like you I do keep waking up. My sleeping has improved recently but I have bad days and as I still have 6 weeks left of work it is not much fun.

Hopefully all your aches/pains and symptons will improve :) xxx

we end up in hospital with high blood pressure and mega swelling! Well at least i have!

all normal things for third trimester. Heartburn I use TUMS, gaviscon never worked for me either but there are other things you can take, Im in Canada so most of them have different names anyway
Put a pillow between your knees when you sleep, unfortunately this helps but doenst take the pain away for me, it was really bad at the beginning of the 3rd trimester and tapered off a bit and now its back :s
Not sleeping good is just a part of it I think, I dont get a good nights sleep....ever, Im up 5 times a night to pee and then another 10 or so flipping over to relieve the aching.
I tried doing some stretching before bed and it helps a bit
