So, we've been waiting to try for the last year and TTC date keeps moving. I'm so broody and want to TTC now. But I don't finish my adult nursing degree until December. I'm not sure when to start TTC. My options are:

1. Now
2. When I've finished my degree (in December)
3. When I've been in my job for 6 months (sometime between June-Sept)

Money and maternity pay isn't a factor. I'm just worried about being a newly qualified nurse and going on mat leave not long after qualifying.

What do you think? I realise i'm a worrier and am worrying what my new ward would think and whether being pregnant and going on mat leave not long after qualifying will make me a rubbish nurse.

Woohooo!! Another adult nurse!!!! :hugs: :hugs: I just qualified, and started my job on Monday last week. :happydance:

Does your trust provide a preceptorship programme when you get a job? Mine does, and you have to be in your job for a year in order to complete that preceptorship period, so the earliest I will ideally be able to TTC is 3 months into my job. That way, when I've finished my preceptorship, I'll be able to go on maternity leave if I wanted! I'm not though - we're planning on TTC in just over a year. :)

Like April said, wards do often expect it - especially if you're young and newlywed etc. It's up to you, whether you want to get into a job, not really know it, and then have 6 months(+) off, or if you want to be established in your job first.

I would probably wait til you get a job. You may find you take 12 to conceive which means you could have been earning, getting experience and clocking up enough days to qualify for a maternity package of some kind xx

Hi-five for adult nurses! :p

I'm already able to get paid maternity leave because my training has been a secondment so legally I'm still employed by the Trust thus entitled to mat pay, and they have to give me a job when I'm qualified (sweet deal).

I just can't figure out when will be best to get on with trying. I guess it'll all become clearer when I get my first job. In the meantime I'm just SO broody it's making me miserable/crazy, y'know? This time last year I had a tick list of things to get done before TTC and pretty much everything has been ticked off, yet I'm still worrying about when to start.
