Do any of you experienced mamas have tips for flying with twins (or even singletons)? I'd love to hear all of your wisdom and tricks!

We traveled when my daughter was just 4 months but the only advice i can give you is. Try not to stress it is difficult but flapping doesn't help!
Use rucksacks as your hand luggage - this way you can keep both hands free.
If you have to do a nappy change only take what you need ie dont take your changing bag as it is tight!
I was worried about her kicking off and people tuting but they are babies not a tantrum... Theres not much you can do!
Also have water/milk for them to drink to pop there ears for take off and landing.

Emm sorry its a bit of a ramble but hope it helps? X

Those are awesome tips! Thank you so much. Did you check the stroller plane-side or send it through with your other checked bags?

Hi. We recently flew with 11 month old twins plus a 3 year old!

I take it there's going to be 2 adults? We checked the buggy in at the departure gate but couldn't pick it up until baggage reclaim so make sure you have some baby carriers as it's quite a way through passport control sometimes!

One thing to know is that you can't sit in the same row with 2 infants - only certain seats have extra oxygen masks for infants and they don't put 2 in the same row unfortunately. So it's probably best to get seats directly across the aisle from each other or one in front of the other, depending on the layout of infant seats. I would actually suggest one directly infront of the other is best as it allows games of peekaboo through the seat backs!

I packed 2 small nappy bags (a carrier bag with a couple of nappies, a pack of wipes, a couple of toys and some baby biscuits). This meant we could keep those by our chair in the flight and have the rest of the hand luggage in the locker. Remember that it might be a pain getting stuff out of the locker during the flight as one of you will have to hold both babies whilst the other accesses the locker - not ideal if one baby is asleep

If you're formula feeding then it's fine to take bottles of water and milk in hand luggage. Just keep them separate when going through security and they put them in a special machine to check them

Let me know if you have any other questions x

We checked our buggy in last min at the plane side. But like pp said, at the other end buggys were the last to come out! She was pretty heavy to hold all that time. (On the way home they were first out) so wasn't as bad. X

We just flew with DD who is nearly 6 months and our two year old DS. Admittedly it was only a two hour flight but it was fine. I wrapped DD to get through security and then put her back in the pushchair which we used right until we got to boarding the plane. They let us have a changing bag and normal hand luggage which was useful. Take plenty of toys and changes of clothes. We also booked the seats at the front of the plane with the bulkhead in front of us so we had a bit more leg room and could lay DD on the floor to change her. We took turns in having DD on our laps and I bf her when we descended as I think her ears were popping a bit.

We flew with DS when he was 1 last year on a 10 hour flight and he was fine then too. It's a daunting idea but it's not as bad as it seems 😊

try and book an evwning flight around bedtime we did with ds1 at 11 mos old and it was perfect gave him his bottle as we were taking off and he slept the whole flight !!!

I've flown with my now 18 month old son twelve times since he was 3 months old. Everyone is giving great tips!

I fly alone with my son a lot. I usually babywear through security.

My suggestions would be:

-Consider booking seats a few rows behind the wings of the airplane. The noise helps lull babies to sleep sometimes and it muffles the sound of crying. One time my son cried for a few minutes and at the end of the flight the person in front of us turned around and said "There was a baby right there?! I didn't hear a thing!"

-Bring lots of snacks and at least one change of clothes.
(You can bring formula, breast milk, baby food jars/pouches, bottled water through security).

-Depending how active your children are, you may want to wait until everyone else has boarded the plane to get on. A lot of airlines let families board first but if you have assigned seats (versus open seating) it might be worth waiting. In my case, my son gets fussy if we are seated and not moving for awhile. When I traveled with him as a lap infant it was so much easier to let him run around or calm him down while everyone else boarded. I fly alone 90% of the time so it becomes an issue of being cramped up next to a stranger. I bought my son his own seat the last time we flew and we did the pre-boarding option and it worked wonderfully because he had a whole (window) seat to move around in.

-Take off and descending is when the ear popping issue comes into play. I learned the hard way that the descending pressure change happens sometimes 30mins before you actually start landing. So, I'd suggest being prepared with a bottle or nursing when you start to feel a change in pressure yourself. Or, now that my son is older, I have a lollipop ready to let him have a few licks of if he refuses to drink/nurse at that time.

-I've found having baby games and shows downloaded on my phone or tablet to be helpful. That way if my son gets bored or starts trying to throw his toys there is another way to keep him occupied.

I hope this was helpful. Try to not to stress, and have a wonderful trip! :flower:

I received SO many helpful tips from you girls that I wanted to follow up and let you know we survived our first flight! I took much of your advice, and we learned a few other tricks from the flight to the east coast. Now that we're back home I wrote up a list of what worked for us. I hope this is helpful for anyone else that has upcoming flights over the holidays! https://www.theydontfeedthemselves.com/flying-with-infant-twins/
