I decided to get one, after much thought and worrying about little tadpole. It should be coming tomorrow, well,it better do after spending £8 to get it delivered for tomorrow!! Anyway,I'm a big girl so does anyone have any good tips about using this kind of doppler? Thanks!!

I paid an extra £8 to get mine delivered next day.

As for tips - if you have an mp3 player you may find those headphone work better. Also I found using water dried too quickly but found lub works really well (think poundland have some in). I am a larger lady and found it was a two person job to get the best sound. I found me lying back and my bf moving the doppler worked best.

Good luck.

I found starting low - right at your pubes - and moving slowly was best.... using more gel than you think and wiggling the probe...kind of keeping it in same place but changing the angle was helpful.

I'm a size 22/24 and had no problems hon so just give it a whirl and don't give up or freak out if it takes longer than you think it should!

Im a big girl too size 18 and It took me a while but I found it, now every time I find it within about 30 seconds. You will also be able to hear the baby moving around too sooo cool....anyway one tip I have is use alot of gel it helps alot. good luck and congrats mama!

Hi yes start just below ur bikini line in the centre, a full bladder also helps. You will probably here your own hb first much slowers than the baby whose will be really fast. Let us know how u get on x

use baby oil its cheaper and last longer and its brilliant xx

have patients, ive been lucky to find LO more a less straight away each time, talk to LO too as you do it, mine gets all excited & keeps coming to the front of my tummy so the HB sounds like galloping horses/loud, & we love hearing LO moving about in there, & watch out when they kick it can sound very loud & make you jump if you have the headphones turned up loud, lol, x

Doppler came this morning, I couldnt hear a thing at all!! I tried all over the place, the only thing I could hear was what sounding like baby giving a good kick, the only reason I say that is because when I had a MW appt when preg with DS when she found his heartbeat and he kicked,it sounded like that but I didnt hear anything that sounded like a heart beat, not even my own (I did find mine above my heart to see if I was indeed still alive,as you do!!) But it seems odd to hear a kick but not the heart beat. I will say that I am a very big girl, probably around 22 stone so I know it will be hard to find it,have sent the hubby out for some baby oil for another go later!!!

what type is it?

I had to move the doppler around a bit to find it - I also found if i got up Bean would move and we would have to start searching again.

This is going to sound a bit rude but did you lift your stomach up or try over your stomach? I found lifting my stomach and then getting my bf to squirt some lub in what I can only describe as the crease where my belly fat hangs down - if that makes sense! We then moved the doppler around that area and found sometimes you need to angle the doppler to hear it properly.

Emmie M, I've been trying with my Angelsounds Doppler since I was 8 weeks along. Now I am 14 weeks and still no joy.

However, I wanted to say that like you, I cann hear baby's movements and sometimes kicking but can't pin down the heartbeat.

snowy-willow ~ I tried over and under my belly!!! pmsl!! You should've seen me!! I was laying down,no luck, tried putting pillows under my bum,no luck, over belly,no luck, under belly,no luck,on my side,no luck,I even led over the side of the bed!!! lol!! I'll try again later, when my lil man goes to bed, make sure I have a full bladder and some OJ,then I'll go to bed, chill for a bit and try again!! lol!

Did you try doing it on your own? I found it easier with my bf's help.

Most important think is not to worry yourself and just keep trying.

I was on my own doing it,will get hubby to give me a hand!! I'm not too worried, when I was preg with my lil man,the MW had trouble finding it until I was at least 18 weeks, probably 19 weeks

Nah,still nothing!! But we didnt manage to get any lube or something but am gonna get something tomoz and have another go. Am wondering maybe the placenta is at the front? They didnt say anything at my 13 week scan so wouldnt know for sure but can here what sounds like movement/kicks but no heartbeat but every now and then a noise like a heartbeat but more slowish whooshing, not my heart beat and defo not tadpoles,so not sure,I'll have a go every now and then but not gonna get all anal about it!!

dont give up hun, take it really slowly, try moving the doppler sideways VERY very slowly, sometimes the little buggers swim off towards the back which can make it harder to hear in the begining, keep your legs flat on the bed, let OH have ago & talk to LO as mine likes this, i often tickle my belly to encourage LO to move about too, press in with the doppler as much as they do at the hospital, you wont hurt LO as they are protected, sometimes just moving it a MM is all thats needed to find it..good luck im sure you will hear it this time x :)

I'm a bigger girl as well...I couldn't find it at ALL with water or baby oil...I actually gave in and bought some Ultrasound Gel from Amazon.....Use a good bit of it so it's nice and thick, and have the OH try to find it...We try right underneath my belly and can usually find it in a few minutes (I have a hard time finding it alone)...I also find that pressing the doppler hard down works for a better sound, and I also press the headphones against my head to hear better (sometimes it's REALLY soft sounding)...the whooshing is probably the placenta's pulse or umbilical cord (that's what I think mine is...'cause I know exactly what you're talking about) I honestly think the ultrasound gel really makes a difference. I tried it recently with water for sheets and giggles, and couldn't find it. And I also sometimes put a pillow or something under my bum to get that part more elevated...Lol...Don't give up!! =)

Right then, copious amounts of baby oil on,put the doppler right by pubes and got the fast whoosh whoosh whoosh, defo not slow like placenta, maybe cord, dont know, wasnt my heartbeat and every now and then a whoosh like it moved position, turned over or something then WHACK,a kick, which not only did I hear on the doppler,I felt it too!!! This is one happy bunny off for a bath and early night!!! :) :) :)

Thats great am so glad you have found the heartbeat and heard everything :)

Had another go last night so Hubby could have a listen. He couldnt go to any MW appts when I was preg with DS as he was working most of the time,so,apart from when DS was on a monitor before being born this was the only time he was able to listen! Found it first then tadpole moved as soon as I was about to give Hubby the earphones, then I found it,he had a listen and was grinning from ear to ear bless him!! Obviously tadpole was eager for daddy to have a listen as the heart beat was very loud this time!!
