My OBGYN gave me Folic Acid along with prenatals. He and others have told me the Folic Acid will cause me to be constipated. I was to excited to ask him a question, hahah:dohh:, What can I take to stop being constipated? Any here took anything dfferent other than stool softner? I dont want stool softner because I dont want to run to the bathroom all day blowing out water and air.:nope:

Thanks:flower:

A cup of coffe does it for me. Or you can try fiber bars or something like that. And mabey some fruit. Good luck :)!!

hahaha!!!!! 'Blowing out water and air' that made me giggle!!!

Im really glad you have started this thread because I currently have that problem, be interested to hear what people say.

I had it through the WHOLE of my last pregnancy as well, fruit, fibre, hydration, nothing worked. I didnt take anything, and for the life of my I dont know why. I wont be making that mistake again though.

Dont know if this will work for anyone else, but oranges/orange juice is my saviour! It always helps me go when constipated haha

My friend's mother said to eat baby food. haha really? they taste great though!

I woke up this morning like "oh gosh this pill literally sucked me dry!" it's terrible lol
The things I'm willing to go through for my child. :D haha

lol... it'll be all worth it hun! xx

I know haha. All the pain, aches, nausea etc. I love itttttttt

I have everythinggg. Except the throwing up part. but its not as bad as it was with my 1st pregnancy. weird.

I only throw up my prenatal's if I dont eat before I take them. I have a very sensitive stomach..

I've also been having problems with being...uh...backed up, which was rarely a problem for me before my BFP. I saw someone had suggested prune juice, but I couldn't bring myself to buy it in the store--it looks so disgusting! But I figured that prune juice comes from prunes, which are dried plums, so I just bought some fresh plums instead. They definitely seem to help! Probably any fresh fruit would help (except bananas, which apparently have the opposite effect for some reason). Hope this helps!

i bought a big thing of prune juice, so i drink a cup a day and it helps sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

i'm not kidding! THIS STUFF IS MY SAVIOR!
The taste is meh, but def worth the ability to poop :)

or you can drink a cup when you feel "backed up" that works too

Ewwy prune juice. omg I would feel like an old fart if i drank it lol. i dont know, i think of old people when i see prune juice lol. I mean of course I'll drink it if it gets worse haha but maybe i'll try eating more fruits.

what ifffffff.....i stuff my face with chocolate?! :D that would taste awesome

For me: a cup of coffee in the morning and a salad w/ lunch. Hopefully this should help things move forward. If you're not a coffee person, try orange juice. This has helped me tremendously. I never knew how bad the constipation would be. And everything you eat that's good for you most likely has additional folic acid on top of the supplement you're taking which doesn't help. Hope this helps!

I had a plum !!!! It works a couple hours after. lol THANKS!

That's incredibly strange they would tell you that because adequate folic acid intake is actually thought to prevent constipation. It tends to be iron which causes constipation.

Anyways the best thing you can take for constipation is plenty of water and fiber.

Have you tried eating beans or green vegetables such as salad or spinach? I know that should help. Also how about a cup of decaf coffee? Coffee always helps regulate me.

It's the caffeine in coffee that gets things moving... It's a stimulate and does a lovely job at stimulating the bowels! But caffeine is not encouraged in pregnancy and decaf just won't be as effective.

Yes, Others have mentioned coffee. I def will try it but that's something I need to be in the mood for haha. Thanks hun.

Whether if it really is the folic acid+prenatals that cause the constipation or if it just that I'm pregnant in general, I have a pooping issue.
