I haven't seen a thread really start for this... But im hoping to find some people to share ideas with for crafts and similiar activities?! Also tips etc and pictures more then welcome!

Jasmine is almost 22 months and has become much more interested in actually sitting down and doing crafts.

Today we made paper and rice tambourines (or shakers)!

To make them:

-2 paper plates
-a handful of uncooked rice
-stickers, markers, pompoms etc for decorating
-a pipe cleaner for the handle (I usually take a couple different colors and let Jasmine choose 1 she likes)
-non-toxic paste

-a glue gun to glue the paper plates together (for the adult... obviously haha)

What a great idea Joss! Claire is just starting to enjoy crafts too, although she'd still rather eat the crayons and markers rather than draw with them. I'll be stalking this thread for ideas for sure!!!

LOL.... I need ideas too!!! There must be others who have some ideas?

We go and pick leaves, and feathers and random outdoor type stuff and make pictures that way!!
Not very original but lots of fun!!

I made a tambourine! I will post pics later lol. We used ribbon streamers in between the plates. She painted it so its still drying.

I saw an idea online for threading cheerios on string and putting it outside for squirrels or birds to eat.

I was also thinking of getting H to make a necklace with some big wooden beads, but I haven't attempted it yet.

How about dough modelling?

2 cup flour, 1 cup salt, 1 cup water..
knead into dogh.. model teddys, dollys and allsorts.. then put in oven to harden for 3-4 hours on low heat (100ish) and then take out.. cool and can be painted!!
then can be preserved with a coat of varnish.

I do lots of dough models.. well less than I used to.

let out their creative side.. occupies them for hours!!

Good idea Wendy!!!!

Here is our paper plate flower! I let her pick out the colors for the petals and stem etc and then just let her decorate it and I glue it all together. Daddy sat and did the leaves with her too :D it was nice to see him sit and do a little with her!!!

H painting her tambourine :D She collaged the other side with tissue paper

awwww so cute! looks like she loves it too! What paint do you buy? I got crayola finger paints but they are really weird... I dont like them LOL

Thats what I have too, I think I am going to buy those old school tempera paints I had in school.

I think toys r us has a big sale on crayola now... are the tempra paints from them?

Not sure, google Tempera. Its that paint we all had in kindergarten, I seen it at the art store the other day.

Slime!!!!!!

All it is is cornflour and water. Mix it right and you can pick it up but it slimes out through the fingers! Best bit ..... to clean up, just let it dry and hoover! Comes out of carpets and everything! My monsters love it ... am sure yours will too!! ;)
