Ds1is now just over 2 and a half and after our holiday on a couple of weeks I want to start potty training. I have tried and failed a couple of times since he was 2, due to ds2 being a very high needs baby. My first problem is that he is scared of pants.... I know it probably sounds strange but he cries as soon as he sees them and if I put them on him he cried badly and tries to take them.off. I have also brought boxers and showed him daddy wears the same but he just cries and asks for a nappy. Has anyone else experienced this and have any tips on overcoming pant fear!? X

I havent had the same experience, but I thought I would leave my ideas of what I would do!
Have you got a potty training book? Maybe get one with really good pictures to show him big boys wear pants etc. Then really get him excited about ging to choose some pants together, my ds is really into dinasours and emergency vehicles, so off we went to choose some new pants with dinsaours on and lots with police cars etc, so he is very proud of his pants.
My best friends daughter was very proud to show me her hello kitty knickers, and another little girl from my ds childcare was excited to show me her bambi knickers. (At this point I am thinking I must remember to tell my daughter when she is potty training not to show everybody her knickers!)
It might be worth getting him to choose his own potty too, perhaps a duck one, or my ds chose his steps for the toilet. Very exciting day!
Hope that helps honey.

My ds doesnt have a phobia but he did hate pants. He'd pee in them as soon as they were on even tho he was potty trained at 18 months but only if he was bare bummed! Last week i bit the bullet and brought a ton of thomas the tank pants with a view to i do t care how many he goes through he will wear them all day" i got a big bag of lollies and "bribed" him to keep them on lol.

Maybe you could try without pants at first say with just loose pjs on to try to get him used to no nappy?

Can't help as we have the same problem - apparently pants are the work of the devil.

'NO BIG BOY PANTS!!!!'

:dohh:

He refuses to choose any pants at all, he debated cars ones before saying no! Thank you for all the ideas though, ill go with the loose pyjamas I think to start.

Birdling, im so glad someone else is unfortunately in the same situation, I never imagined putting pants on would be such a issue!! X
