Hey my daughter will be 3 once the new baby comes. The baby will defo need to be in a pram but how will I get my 3 year old around? will she be big enough to walk 20 minutes down the road or will I need something so she can ride along too? any tips?

All my kids were out of their buggies by 3 (even my lazy boy lol) so yes, she should be up to a 20 minute walk. I don't drive so mine had to walk everywhere! You could get a buggyboard - I had one briefly with dd2 but tbh found it a pain in the wotsit as she drove me insane with the on-off-on-off routine.

I'd suggest starting to build up the distance that your daughter walks slowly as you have a while yet - and invest in some good wellies for march puddle jumping!

She should definitely be ready for walking good distances. My son hasn't been in a stroller for ages. We actually took him on a hike up a mountain, turned out to be like 7mi or something total and took us like 5-6 hours with him. He made it all the way up on his own but did have to be carried most the way down. At this age they don't tires easily and my son would not put up with being in a stroller if his life depended on it!!! He is too independent and would rather walk himself and be able to explore :flower:

That's awsome :) wow thats a long way for a 3 year old. I had to walk 10 minutes down the road with lily since the bus driver took us the wrong way without telling us and she kicked up a fuss and insisted the she got carried. I hope she's able to walk a bit further when she's 3!

Once my son started walking at 8 1/2 months, he never wanted to be in a stroller. I remember I took him out for Halloween (he was about 18 months) and he walked the whole neighborhood. 2 hours later, I was ready to go and he still wanted to walk some more!

With that said, I think girls typically are less proned to walk long distances. I know when I was little, I hated walking...but my son loves to walk. Nonetheless, I think she'll be ok.

My son was 3 when my last baby was born. I just made sure we had ditched the stroller a while before baby came home so he was used to it and also so he didn't associate his now having to walk to the new baby. You can buy platforms on wheels that toddlers can stand on that attach to some prams if your 3yo really isn't keen.

All my 4 have been out of their buggies by 3 years of age, even my eldest who I kept in for longer for his own safety. My middle 2 were walking a 3 mile round trip 3 times a day by the time they were 27 months, I wasn't cruel, they just hated their buggy. My 2nd child was 21 months when my 3rd was born and my 3rd was 26 months when my 4th was born. I used a buggy board for when they were really tired or if they were ill, I put the baby in a sling.
If you get your lo used to walking before bubba is born she will be fine. It will be fine honey. xxxxx

I had similar problems when I had my last DS, when he was born I had no car, and had a 2 and 4 year old. Back then buggy boards were rediculously expensive, so I found it easier to carry the newborn in a sling, then have a buggy for my 2 year old, and the 4 year old obviously walked a good distance ok!

I would say she could walk 20mins at that age, if not already.
My daughter was out of pushchairs at 18mths and walked everywhere. x

My daughters hated the buggy around 18/24months of age, BUT they could be trusted not to run off WHEREAS my 2 year old son is a nightmare and I put him in buggy for my sanity

I used raines for my daughter, they cost about £5 from mothercare. x

I find my almost 3 year old is very manipulative when it comes to being carried. He walks fine but likes to play up,when he's with anyone else, aunties, uncles, grandparents etc,he's as good as gold and will walk but when hes with us he will scream and makes us embarrassed so we pick him up,he has it down to a fine art,but we have stopped him doing it now!

my son will be 22months when this little one is born i will be getting a buggy board as he likes to walk but when it suits him and will throw him self on the floor and scream if he doesnt want to and he only has to catch site of the rains he has a paddy. x x x

when i had my 2nd son my eldest was 2 and a half and a bit lazy so we got a buggy board , tbh he still occassionally uses it now if we out all day walking and hes 4 , now my youngest who is 27 months will walk everywhere he hates being in the buggy i have to have a wrist strap on him though as i still cant trust him to stay on the path.
like someone else said i would try get her used to it now so she doesnt feel pushed out the buggy when the baby comes along , just be strong and dont give into carrying else she will want it all the time , make a game of it if you can. my son (eldest ) said he couldnt walk to pre school it was too far - was 5 mins tops but he could run round the park for 3 hours non stop lol . just go to the nearest post box or something and build up to it . I expect when the baby comes she will want to be the big girl anyway ;)

There's a 2 1/2 year gap between mine. I had buggy board and a sling. Sling for when I wanted dd1 to walk or the pram would be awkward so I could carry baby and hold dd1s hand, buggy board for when we used the pram. She could walk alongside the pram and jump up on the board if the journey was longer than she could handle or she needed a we rest.

Think I might get a buggy board and a sling to be safe haha

I couldnt trust DS to walk yet, he is 19 months will be 2 when baby is born so we have already invested in a double pram x

my baby is 3 and she loves walking. she can walk for hours everywhere whenever we go for a walk. she has a very expensive big jogging/walking buggy that we're gonna give to her little sis/bro once he/she's born. she has 2 strollers actually but they're both colour pink so if the next one is a boy then we're going buggy shopping.
