Ok, I have a 14 month old who is into absolutely everything and will not take no for an answer so I am looking for some toddler friendly ideas for decorating the tree (no way can I attempt putting any baubles on as he will smash or eat them I just know it!!) so far I have come up with:

Gingerbread/stained glass window biscuits (although not sure it is a good idea to use these as may make him think he can eat any decorations?)

Fancy ribbon tied in bows (tightly) to branches

Dried fruit slices tied on tightly with ribbon

Wooden ornaments

Salt dough home made ornaments (not sure if would break and present a choking hazard though?)

Pompom baubles

Still not sure whether to risk lights

Any more suggestions folks please? :)

OOh just found these, now they would be great child friendly ones!!

Just get plastic tree decs.. Thats what I have

Most baubles are shatterproof these days?

Amelie was nearly 1 last year and she was really quite good with the tree. She pulled the ribbon off the bottom branch a few times but she knows no means no  IDK, I think they need to learn they cant touch everything they want and the younger they learn, the easier it is. I think if you put edibles on the tree it'll just be worse!

It's the fasteners and the strings I am really concerned about, you know where the ends of the baubles come off?

Eh? The metal bit on top? that holds the string? I doubt he'd get that off and even if he did surely you'd be around if he did put it in his mouth?

Mum has little robins that look like they sit on the branches - they fasten on a bit like clothes pegs. They are fab, but I think they came from her childhood & have never seen any others. Not very helpful for you but I might get them on a loan :)

I think most baubles are polestireen (cnt spell lol) probably better that he can pull them off because if you tie ribbon tight and he pulls it the whole tree might tip. X

www.dotcomgiftshop.com have some lovely wooden ones as well as some material ones with padding in - I can't describe them well but here:

My Mum used to have those clip on birds too Jo! think they all got broken and chucked away though :(

Jenny think you are right about not tying stuff on tight thanks :)

The baubles I have the metal bits come off easily and yes I am always around but if I have to nip to the loo or am in the kitchen I don't want to be worrying that he will be pulling them apart. You obviously have an obedient tot unfortuanately Myles is VERY strong willed and doesn't do what I say

i know what you mean hun, blake is most strong willed out of my 3 - the other 2 learnt no meant no after 2nd/3rd time telling them etc. blake will do same thing 10/15times and doesnt care how many times you say no to him.

i brought the coffee table back into room as thats what tree will be on, blake has decided that its his personal climbing frame - i'm hoping the novelty will wear off soon!

Kiddo am loving the gingham tree decs I might see if I can make some myself...

Amy thanks hun, it helps to know myles is not the only tearaway!

put them up high and tinsel on the bottom

im also dreading it :? :?
